How to control the boil kettle?

thanks Ajdelange I might just buy a cotnroller from Jagger Bush brewing. After buying parts, tools enclosure and paying for shipping, building my own will not be much cheaper. Valvefan

How to control the boil kettle?

OK, In order to have control over my 240V 4500 W element, does the following make sense? One of the live wires goes directly to the element, The other live wire goes into the SSR (where it is switched on and off) and then emerges from the SSR and goes to the remaining terminal in the...

How to control the boil kettle?

Hi all, I have been looking at these forums for a few days and I am confused. I would like to brew indoors in my garage and use an electric kettle. I am happy with my igloo cooler mash tun for now. I am going to instal a 4500W ULWD element into my 15 gal kettle. My electrician will...

Split batch Lager and ale suggestions?

Hi all I'm going to brew a Munich Helles. I thought it would be fun to make 10 gal of wort and use 5 gal for the Helles and use the other 5 gal for an ale. The grain will be pilsner and some munich and a bit of carafoam or wheat. Hops will be noble. Any suggestions for the ale yeast...

    Lager fermentation question

You are right Green apple flavour is acetaldehyde, an intermediate step in the formation of alcohol. The beer needs more conditioning time. I plan to lager for 5 to 6 weeks Thanks

    Lager fermentation question

After 18 days in the fermenter at 50F I took my Munich Helles out for a diacetyl rest. The carboy spent 3 full days at room temp. The temp probe read 62F. The gravity was 1.012 which was the target. There was a sour apple taste. I assume the apple taste is diacetyl. I racked the beer off the...

    Lager fermentation question

Thanks everyone! Should I keg the cold fermented Helles then let it rise to room temp outside the freezer over a few days then put it back in the freezeer with other kegged beers and drop the temp down to 2C ? That would avoid warming the other kegs up to 13C. valvefan

    Lager fermentation question

I just brewed my first lager, a Munich Helles I have one chest freezer with a Ranco temp controller. The lager is fermenting in there at 10C and my finished beer is in the freezer too. When it is time to complete primary fermentation, I want to increase the temp to 13 degrees over a few...

    Sharp's Doom Bar Clone

I never got around to making the Doom Bar clone. Now that you bring it up, I should give it a try. I am not a good extract brewer, so my advice will be of questionable value. I have much more experience with all grain. Brewing software should allow you to convert the amount of pale ale...
