    GROUP BREW: Strawberry Mead

I want to apologize for waking a dormant thread, but this stuff is soooo good I had to post here again. After opening my last one gallon carboy of this at christmas, I realized that I never should have touched this for a year. Now that strawberry season is in full swing here in florida, I...

    Airlock Question

Lol! Different folks, different strokes. I personally don't like to risk it, and everyone does things differently. Another reason I try to brew five gallons at a time (plus I like to drink the samples :cross: ). Have you been aerating daily? Check the gravity again in a few days to see...

    Airlock Question

I purchased a 100 ml graduated cylinder from amazon that only uses around 85 ml of fluid per reading. It is generally not recommended to pour the sample back in because of possible contamination after the sample has touched so many different surfaces.

    Maple mead?

This depends on where you got your berries from, but if it was me I would sulfite (add campden tabs, 1 per gallon) no matter where they came from. This kills off any unwanted organisms that might spoil your product that fruit tends to carry. Freeze the berries for 24 hrs to break down the...

    Airlock Question

This. A thousand times this. Do not trust airlock activity. Get that hydrometer a sample; hydrometers love samples. And on the up side you get a free sample to taste every time you take one. :mug:

Need a very simple no boil cool temp mead recipee for antarctica

Just a thought, but what about Joe's Quick Grape Mead? I did a no boil version with 3# of honey per gallon without the final back-sweetening suggestions (although I did top off with more grape juice to make an even 5 gallons) and it turned out great, just like alcoholic grape juice with a...

    A newbie mead story

I can attest to a similar story. My first mead was Yomamma's Strawberry Pizazz and after fermentation, stabilizing, clarifying etc there was little strawberry flavor and much rocket fuel. I'm glad that I adopted a policy to set aside one gallon of every mead I make to age. Almost one year...

    Crawfish Etouffee

Once my father made shrimp etoffee I was hooked on it. I normally use green onions, but this sounds good. Thanks for sharing!

    Zorks?

I soak in star san, then dry in dishwasher on heat cycle for a couple minutes. Palm it on with no problems. If you're going to bottle more than 5-10, I would wear a leather glove to relieve some stress on your hand. They hold a great seal if installed correctly, and allow for the bottle to be...

    Gallon Honey Free Shipping

Wow, thank you for this. We are getting ready to move closer to Orlando so this is useful. I currently get my honey from Biggers Apiary in San Mateo, just outside of Palatka, but they only carry Orange Blossom, Wildflower and Gallberry (mmmmm.....gallberry). 5# is $20 for any variety.

How do you sanitize odd shaped or large items?

Go to home depot and get a five gallon bucket with a lid and make a batch of sanitizer in it. Use it to fill spray bottles, and to have a supply for emergency sanitizing. Starsan is so cheap, there is no reason to not invest is a container to hold sanitizer, and a batch will keep for some...
