Did Wild Yeast Get in My Keg? Need this beer for a wedding. :(

Ok, I recently brewed Northern Brewer's Sierra Madre based off of all the solid reviews on their site. I washed and reused a batch of 1056 that I had from an earlier Chinook IPA that I did. I made a starter, and let it ferment for about three weeks. Beer tasted good going into the kegs...

    Brewing with newborns

Make sure you take care of the mom. A happy mother = happy spouse = happy marriage = time for you to brew. I started brewing before my third child, so I never really knew what it was like to brew without responsibilities. But I learned this much: You can brew as much as your wife wants...

Did my IPA carb too quickly?

I just bottled a Chinnok IPA from Northern Brewer last Sunday. I have to admit that I didn't check the gravity over three days, but the gravity at bottling time was 1.011 and have been in the fermentor for three weeks (OG was 1.052). I carbed with 4 oz. of corn sugar. The bottles sat in my...

It sounds more like homebrew has improved your taste!

Would this work for a beer engine.

Thanks for all the links guys. I'm now thinking I might try the cubitainer route and just gravity feed it to start out. I don't really like the idea of beer sitting in plastic, but stainless steel casks seem a bit complicated for me at the moment. Maybe when I go back to England, I'll look...

Would this work for a beer engine.

Yes, I'm just trying to keep the beer fresh for as long as possible. I'd probably carbonate with sugar, then just use this Co2 thing to keep air from being introduced when drawing a pint.

Would this work for a beer engine.

My wife is from England and we spend a few weeks each summer there where I fell in love with a good English bitter. I currently bottle the bitters I brew. I'm contemplating buying a beer engine, but want to keep the cost down as much as possible and I don't have a current draft setup. Since...

Cost of "good" beer, versus "swill".

Sweet, I can now buy the book with a clear conscious! :mug:

Cost of "good" beer, versus "swill".

Revvy, what do you think of this guy's review of the book? He thinks Maureen is too biased towards Bud and even criticizes craft brewers. http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KXSLLLZRCLFQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=0156033593&nodeID=&tag=&linkCode=

    The rise of Mr Beer?

Was just at my local Whole Foods and saw a stack of these for sale. It looks like the All Grain version of Mr. Beer, but it only makes 1 gallon! http://brooklynbrewshop.com/store/1-gallon-beer-kits

    2010 Sam Adams Winter Classis

+1 on the POS Cranberry Lambic. It was always the last beer to go in my fridge. Now if I could only find an extract recipe for making the Holiday Porter, my favorite by far.

    Siphonless Fermenter Leaking. Help!

Yeah, I tried like hell earlier to tighten and even loosen the spigot, but to no avail. I just went to check it, and it's not dripping anymore. I think the sticky wort may have dried a little and hopefully sealed the leak. I'll leave it overnight and check things out tomorrow.

    Siphonless Fermenter Leaking. Help!

I can definitely hot glue it to seal it. I never considered this. I'm worried that I might seal in some bacteria, but maybe I'll hit the area with Star San first. I'm going to try it and hope for the best. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Can i use turkey fryer pot to make turkey?

I use an old turkey pot as well. It was scrubbed and soaped up real well. The only problem is since it's aluminum I had to "season" it again by boiling water in it to get the shiny aluminum interior to darken. It also has a spigot on the bottom of the pot that I can never seem to be able to...
