    Raspberry Mead

So, a month fermenting in the primary... THEN a secondary? how long is the secondary? May or may not be moving within the next 3-4 months... that was my concern for time before bottling. Not a fan of the idea of having a carboy sloshing around when moving. :D So... 1gal? few recipes I saw...

    Raspberry Mead

So, I have a few raspberry bushes, had hoped to have enough for making wine but only got about 2lbs worth. At the same time, there is an apiary about 3km down the road so... figured make some mead! I'm looking to make a simple, sweet raspberry mead, and found a few recipes, but most seem to...

question about my root beer extract and what to add

Actually, I did use Lalvin EC-1118. Bought it from the local wine making supply shop the day I made it. They had it in the fridge so, assuming was still good. Half the batch were re-used bottles and half were new, all new caps, everything sterilized thoroughly as well so... not sure why such a...

question about my root beer extract and what to add

I need to look into forced carbonation ... rootbeer came out tasting fine, however, also has a yeasty smell/taste that's killing the rootbeer flavour. Bottled were hard after just over a day, some put into the fridge some into the cold cellar. Been find if not for the overpowering yeast. :S

question about my root beer extract and what to add

Well, I just meant that chemical artificial lemon like you would expect soap to taste like, or lysol. Bottles were very well cleaned, some were never even used before so, unlikely the same contaminate in all bottles. Being a soda, there was no 'primary' fermentation stage... just direct to...

question about my root beer extract and what to add

Looks good, was just on here looking for a recipe for the 4oz Zatarain's I have. For bottle carb, do I simply add a pack of champagne yeast? I made a lime soda before from extract, 'Rainbow Flavors' I believe it was... carbonated great, but tasted like lemon dish soap... hoping it was...

Red Star was indeed the one I bought last time. :D

Wine vs Champagne Yeast for Soda

Awesome... last time I bought it, it said champagne on the front in large letters, so just wanted to make certain before I made 5 gallons of root beer with the wrong stuff. :D

Wine vs Champagne Yeast for Soda

Just a quick question... Making some rootbeer with the kids, went to the local wine store and asked for champagne yeast, but when I got home I noticed it said wine yeast (Lalvin EC-1118). Will this work? or does it have to be champagne yeast to create bubbles? Thanks

    Canadian Suppliers

Ya I notice that for some things as well... beer especially. I bought my pot (cooking not smoking) from the US because even after shipping I saved $20. I think it's because there are so few places that sell in Canada vs the US that well, lack of competition/suppliers make it harder for them...

    Canadian Suppliers

Starting to think I should startup an AHS here in Canada and retire. :D

    Canadian Suppliers

Hey fellow Canadians... just wondered if you had any websites/links for Canadian suppliers that sell ingredients much like Austin Homebrew Supplies does. I checked on here, found some old links, basic equipment sales, and a lot of US sites, but not so much for Canada when comes to...

    Grapefruit Stiegl Radler Recipe

Went to a pub the other day, 100 beers on tap... needless to say I didn't want to leave. Best part was you could by 6 x 5oz. tasters. In any case, one was the Grapefruit Stiegl Radler, which was amazingly good. Hoped AHS had a kit but not that I could see. Anyone have a recipe for a clone? Thanks

    Filtering - Worthwhile?

Ah, that's what I was looking for... saw a few things here and there about filtering, but didn't know how it affected carbonation. I'll be bottling and I like my bubbles. :D
