    Homebrew facepalms

Was racking from my carboy into my keg in the kitchen and when I pumped down on the racking cane the pressure blew the end of the hose out of the mouth of the keg like an unmanned firehose. I managed to shoot a stream of porter ten feet across the kitchen. Generally I could just laugh this off...

    Homebrew facepalms

Thanks for the tip, j1. I'll try that for my next brew...I've been scheming up my next brew for the past week or so. With fall and winter at the door I think it's time for a RIS or a barleywine.

    Homebrew facepalms

I continue to shoot myself in the foot using yeast energizer/ nutrient. Was making a big yeast starter in a 2000mL Erlenmeyer flask on the stove top and immediately after removing from the flames I tossed in the pre-measured amount of nutrient and energizer. Yet another science-fair volcano in...

    Homebrew facepalms

Thread necromancy! Anyways, I just learned a great brewing lesson! Five gallons of fermenting mead + a tablespoon and a half of yeast energizer = science fair volcano of epic proportions. My first thought was "wait a second, thats not going to...." which quickly evolved into "ooooooh noooooo!"...

    Beer Geeks vs. Beer Snobs?

A beer snob thinks beer quality is determined by price, a beer geek actually knows what makes a quality brew.

The Dark Lord ....cloning this massive beer!!

I was looking for a good RIS recipe and came upon this. The recipe looks pretty good, I make a stout thats a toned down version of this minus the crystal and the vanilla beans and its a really balanced brew. If I may make a suggestion to anyone checking this recipe out; think about freeing up an...

St. Patrick is upon us! What's on the menu?

This St. Patricks has a good chance to get sloppy. I've got a zombie dust clone that just finished up bottle conditioning, a dry irish stout that will be bottled next week, and a big ass belgian strong that will be ready by march as well. All told, 15 gallons of brew at my grubby little fingertips.

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

That picture isn't sideways, we just frown upon gravity in our house.

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Mine finished bottle conditioning a couple days ago and this is an amazing brew. It needs to sit a little longer to clarify but the flavor and aroma is incredible.

Where fantasy geeks and beer geeks collide...

I think this has inspired me to make a 3 stigmata of Palmer Eldricht beer named "Brewzie". Now what to put in it...

As long as your o-rings seal properly I don't think it really matters what you use. I don't think there's any type of standardization to these builds, just functionality.

Frugal Brewing : Getting Started without going broke.

For someone to get started all you really need is a 16 quart stock pot and a five gallon bucket. Start with extract kits and minimashing and if you like it you can just keep your eyes open. After a year I've accumulated a ton of great equipment from just being watchful. My work had an old...
