so this came out excellent....except nothing like a kingfisher...will give it another shot soon enough and report back in couple of months. beer was fantastic otherwise
my recipe was quite simple actually. i just wanted to get rid of the extra 6 lbs of munich malt extract i had, so i took that with 3 lbs of extra light dme and 0.5 lbs of rice syrup solids to thin the body. used simcoe and williamatte hops, but messed up the order in which i was to use them...
I brewed an ale about 6 weeks ago and messed up the hop utilization calcs (I am still a noob!). Basically, ended with a sweet beer that is fully carbonated in bottles. I know that fermentation completed and I know the main fault is the hops utilization...I just messed that up so badly. I am...
Xpertskir - You are my hero...This is where I want to be in my 13th month of this wonderful hobby. BTW...wifey loves my beers, so that helps in acquiring new gadgets, equipment w/o much fuss.
Yup...same as above. We seriously modified an Irish Red Ale recipe and gave it to our friends/family to taste. Almost unanimous opinion can be summed up in 'out of this world'...Onto our fourth batch. All extract and partial mash for now. I have no intention of going to all grain yet.
Mine ferments out in 2-3 days with Nottingham. Looks like you had Krausen, so no issues and fermentation is likely complete or close to it. I'd still leave it the way it is until 3 more days before transferring to secondary OR bottling. As others have said, take a hydrometer reading.
And yes...
first ever brew - Irish Red at 1.5 weeks into bottling. It got much more clear after that. I have two other batches in bottle, including one lager, which is looking 'read-through' clear already.
The two batches that I did, I cold crashed them after 2.5 weeks and bottled straightaway...I don't see any issues unless for some odd reason the fermentation wasn't complete at 2 weeks...you should proceed to bottling/kegging w/o worrying about a thing...it'll be just swell.
in the two batches i have down, no gelatin, but cold crashed for 3-4 days and put in the priming solution around 70F and didn't warm up the cold crashed beer. turned out great and clear...here is a pic. this is from the 1st week and it got clearer after the 3rd week of bottling.
I don't have it yet but looks like I'll be investing in one soon. Also, I am not worrying about this further. I peaked through the hole again and everything seems to be chugging along well...adios amigos until next update
Hi - I have read plenty of threads here on fallen grommets / gaskets in the wort after trying to seal a very wet (from sanitizer) lid with the airlock. I brewed an experimental beer on Saturday and was in a rush to leave for a weekend trip with the family, so I left the rubber grommet in the...
Updates:
Red Ale - So after 8 days of bottle conditioning at 75F in the closet, I was tempted to try one out last night. I chilled it prior to opening. Without bragging too much about the brew, I have to say that this is one of the best red ales I have tasted in a while...haha...talk about...
thanks for the tips 454k30...i plan to lager for about 1 month as per the recipe. bottle condition then for almost 3 weeks. this lager has an insane kick to it because i took a 6 gallon recipe and made 5 gallons out of it. it will be an easy 7.5% lager. I'll report back towards mid-August on lager.
thanks jonny, i cold crashed the red ale yesterday and am leaving out the lager for the next couple of days while this one is done cold crashing. i'll move the lager to the secondary and put in the fridge for the next month or so. I am planning to bottle the red ale this weekend. I'll report...
