What do you hear when you tell prople you Home Brew?

Most folks have been pretty interested in my hombrewing and winemaking. I even found out one of my fellow elected officials is a homebrewer.:D The one I don't understand, however, is my brother-in-law. He turns up his nose at homebrewed beer and homemade wine... but then asks me if I want some...

    Turbinado Sugar

Turbinado sugar and brown sugar are definitely not the same things. Best analogy I can think of is maple sap/syrup. Maple syrup is sap concentrated (boiled) to 1/40th of its original volume. If I dilute maple syrup 40:1 I don't get maple sap. Just like adding motor oil to gasoline doesn’t give...

    Turbinado Sugar

Turbinado sugar is sugar that has not been refined to the stage of being white table sugar. It has some flavor (a nice flavor IMHO), as opposed to just being sweet. It is slightly brown in color. It is not the same as "brown sugar." Brown sugar is refined white sugar with molasses added.

    Issue with capper

My capper is very old... form an antique store. It puts a "dent" or ring on the cap. Now caps without the ring look odd to me. :)

What's THE worst movie you've ever seen?

Worst movie I can think of is Kenneth Branaugh's "Frankenstein." From the fake opening of a ship stuck in the polar ice cap, to the blood and egg-white slime. ::shudder::

    Effects of temperature?

That's what I am using this winter. I put a thermometer in the frig... fluctuates from 70 to 72. :) Got 6 gal of Cabernet in there (gotta keep the wife happy) and a gallon of fig wine (for next Christmas). Just bottled my sage-orange wine.

    What will molasses do?

My "Peater Rabbit" stout was made with blackstrap molasses. My wife and I have found it to be very tasty. I used pre-hopped extract (just to see what it would do) so I am unsure of the actual bitterness. Peater Rabbit's Stout --------------------- Style: Dry Stout Batch: 5.00 gal...

    First Brew...did I make a poor choice?

My first brew was a Brewer's Best Irish Stout. LME, steeping grains & pellet hops. It was very good! I still have one bottle left. Seeing how long I can hold out before I open it. ;)

    How to make labels?

It's not the label paper or the plain paper that cause the ink to run, it's the ink itself. I use a HP inkjet with waterbase ink. My old Epson inkjet's ink was not waterbase. Anything printed by that printer did not run, but alas, it died. So, with HP's inks, I need to spray my sheets with a...

    How to make labels?

That's exactly what I do too. But, after printing, I spray the sheets with a clear fixative to "waterproof" them. Right now I'm using a Krylon clear spray. Just a light misting, & the labels don't run. Cheap hairspray (Aquanet) would probably work just as well.

    Lifted Kilt Ale

I Showed my wife the "Gingers." She still prefers the "Lifted Kilt" label. I just don't understand.
