Another craft brewery bites the dust...

I thought they already owned Elysium or had a significant investment. Having spent a fair numbers of evenings at the brewpub in Seattle when I used to travel there on business, I hope they don't muck it up. The food and beer was very good. On a side note, I went to Hardly Strictly in SF...

    SMaSH suggestion

    +1 I like Vienna/Amarillo or MO/Mosiac.

How Much Priming Sugar for One Gallon Batch?

I use 21-24 g which is ~.75-.8 of an ounce for standard pale ale carb levels.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I throw the pellets right in and put a sanitized, small mesh bag over the opening of the racking cane when transferring to the bottling bucket to avoid a cold crash.

    Brooklyn Brew Shop Bottling Questions

Wait at least three weeks. Use a bottling bucket. Don't use as much honey as they suggest when bottling - check Northern Brewer's calculator for one gallon amounts.

    Best SMaSH recipe you've made???

I make an all Mosiac PA that has become my favorite recipe. It is 90% MO. The hop schedule is 10% of the hops at 60 mins and the rest split between 15 mins and FO. The specific amounts are determined with BrewTarget to get to mid/high 30's IBUs.

I have a wilser bag that needs a good home

Another for any size for my tiny 16 qt kettle...I'm sure they are way better than the bag I'm using.

    First time BIAB

Yep - exactly what I did this weekend by mashing for 40 minutes. I was going to do 30, but wasn't convinced I had stirred enough. I've been following discussions that you and Owly have been involved in regarding BIAB and shorter mash times. Nonetheless, I still kept the oven on due to past...

    First time BIAB

Just my experience, but I have to have the oven running at 170F, at least, and sometimes need to be at 180 or 190 to maintain the mash temps for 60 mins. Maybe it's the high altitude or the dry air (or crappy pots :-)).

    First time BIAB

I suspected that would be the case, but tried it anyway. ~50F drop in first 15 minutes, ~80F drop in 15 minutes in the ice bath. The snow has now melted, but more will be here soon and I'll try again with cold water and snow.

    First time BIAB

I did my first BIAB, 2 gallon batch this weekend (after about 15 - 1 gallon batches). LHBS crush...40 minute mash...45 minute boil...I hit my numbers almost bang on with 73% efficiency, a touch higher than expected. Mashed in the kettle in the oven, set to 180F, sparged as my kettle is too...

Brooklyn Brew Shop's Grapefruit Honey Ale - Tips and Advice

Re: StarSan - as noted, go with the included sanitizer and mail order some for bottling. I didn't find it very bitter, but my wife did. For perspective, she finds anything more bitter than Big Sky Summer Honey to be too much:-). We are near each other - I'm in S Alberta, which is basically...

Brooklyn Brew Shop's Grapefruit Honey Ale - Tips and Advice

I made it without any grapefruit peel and it's a solid pale ale with just the grains/candi sugar/honey etc. Get some StarSan rather than using the supplied sanitizer and don't use as much honey for carb'ing as they suggest when it's time to bottle (mine was overcharged).

    Blowoff tube question

Good solutions already noted. I use some plumbers/Teflon tape to snug up connections that have become unsnug.
