First biab, last min prep questions

+1 on DMS for 90 minute boil. Especially if there's Pilsner Malt. I hear it produces more DMS than other malts. Go BIAB! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Home Brew mobile app

    Unicorn Blood

Sucralose worked well for me. Everyone who has tried the final product has told me that they liked it, and most are typically honest about what they like of mine and what they dislike. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Home Brew mobile app

    Black IPA help

I just worked a black ipa this last weekend and used debittered black malt and 6oz of homegrown nugget. I won't submit it, as it won't fit any profile, but it smells amazing and the sweet wort was tasty. Can't wait until it is finished. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Home Brew mobile app

I need a recommendation for a good beginner guide for all grain brewing

+1 BIAB requires only 2 new pieces of equipment: a bag, and a grain mill. Your LHBS can also mill grain for you, so you just really need a bag. My wife sewed mine from voile, but you can get them from wilserbrewer on here. http://biabbags.webs.com/

    Plants vs. Rhizomes

I inherited 3 plants, sunbeam, Willamette, and Nugget. All crowns. I got great yield first year with sunbeam and nugget, and almost noting off of the Willamette. Same soil, growing conditions, water, sun, everything. It depends also on the varietal that your growing. I'll probably ditch...

    Liquid yeast

Correct. I try to make a starter a few days ahead of time with the yeast I want to use. If I brew on Saturday, I'll start a starter on Wednesday and step a 500ml then a 2L starter. My yeast typically is rolling away in a matter of hours with high krausen the following day at the latest. My...

20 or 50' copper for DIY wort chiller?

Go with the 50. I used a 20 foot coil, and it works, but I wish I would have used the 50. Its more money, but I could chill much faster. Get the garden hose hookups too. Using hose clamps is a pain in the rear.

    Unicorn Blood

Mine finished at 1.007 so pretty dry. I added sucralose to taste. I took my gravity sample, about 4 oz, and added drops until I liked it. Then I extrapolated to 5 gallons. I had it in primary for a month. Bottles took 4 weeks to be perfectly carbed.

    Unicorn Blood

I did not cold crash or do a secondary. I was in a rush to get it ready for christmas. I back sweetened using sucralose at bottling, about 5 tablespoons of liquid. It is a family favorite, and packs one hell of a punch. I'm sure it would pour clearer if I cold crashed and used a secondary. I...
