I know that this thread has been dormant for awhile but I was looking for something like this and you have given me some great ideas. I'd like to build a herms system with a keggle for the HLT and MLT. I like your ideas of insulation and spraying that with rhino liner. I will probably use this...
Just an update for everyone, I brewed my first all grain batch this weekend. I went with a copper manifold with slots on the bottom. My old man gave me some advice about putting the slots on the bottom so that the wort would drain from the lowest point in the tun. I used a 4 way cross to join...
I guess I should have just bought liquid yeast if I wanted to use my new toy... Oh well, I will rehydrate and then pitch as normal. I don't have a ferm chamber but keeping the fermenter in my kitchen (much to the chagrin of my fiance') seems to keep it around 64. I willl follow all of your...
I am brewing a ten gallon batch of Honey Porter with a planned OG of 1.068. I bought two packets of Nottingham and the guy at my LHBS told me to just pitch them in. I've read the thread discussing rehydrating vs. pitching and the questions on the reliability of mr. malty. I just recently bought...
Looking to brew a ten gallon batch of this for x-mas time. When should I get started? Mind you, I am still new to All Grain and have only brewed a few IPA's but I had a bottle of this from my buddy's extract Northern Brewer kit... Delicious.

Well, since I've never had the commercially beer I won't be able to be too helpful. I'm trying to trade some east coast beers for some west coast beers but am having a little trouble. Hopefully someone is a yuengling/troegs fan and will trade!
Well JoeBronco, you were right. I decided to take a sample of my beer to see how the dry hopping was coming along and was blown away by how great it was. The smell is gone and the flavor is excellent. 6/17 I keg this baby up and wait for the best part!
