American Wheat Beer Hoppy Session Wheat Beer

First crack at this came out OK. Missed my OG badly, and the beer finished at 1.004. The bitterness was too assertive for this FG. I think it will balance better with more malt. That said, the aroma and mouthfeel were tremendous, even with the low gravity. I will repeat with the same grain bill...

Malic bite in first cider from apples

Attempting MLF on the finished cider now. We'll see if it works in a low-nutrient environment.

American Wheat Beer Hoppy Session Wheat Beer

I am working on dialing in my hoppy beer process, and I wanted a modern (ester-driven, full-mouthfeel) compliment to @BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde. I think this is just the ticket. Doesn't require an obscene amount of hops or get into poly-phenol oxidation problems (I don't think?). Both...

Malic bite in first cider from apples

For this batch, I will likely prime with an appropriate amount of apple juice concentrate and then simply bottle. I'd like to hand it out to some of the folks who helped make it, so kegging is less preferred

Malic bite in first cider from apples

Thanks for the advice all. I think I will adjust the blend next year, plan to do MLF and use metabisulfite instead of heat pasteurizing. I am confident this cider has not undergone MLF (unless it is occurring now), and I do wonder if heating had a detrimental effect on volatile flavor compounds...

Malic bite in first cider from apples

P.s. I am excited to read the Jocolier book when the library reopens! Fingers crossed I can make some serious improvements to next year's batch!

Malic bite in first cider from apples

Hi all, I pressed my first cider in the fall. The apples were a mix (~745/25) of eating apples and crab apples. The varieties are unknown, as these were picked from strangers' yards around the city (after asking of course!). The fruit was scratted and pressed, heated to 130 for 30 min, cooled to...

What should the washer look like?

P.s. one of the things I needed to do was tighten my MFL connections lightly with a wrench. Finger tight was not cutting it. Just wanted to share in case anyone else finds this useful.

What should the washer look like?

Ok, here's the update: I attached the regulator with *just* the nylon washer, and I really yarded on it. As best I can tell from both soap solution and starsan solution, there is no leak at the coupler anymore. I also tested every downstream connection on the gas side (regulator to gas...

What should the washer look like?

@day_trippr Yes the nylon washers came with the regulator. The nylon and brass are essentially flush, from what I can tell by feel.

What should the washer look like?

Alright, thanks for the explanations, all! I'll try this with no fiber washer and see how it goes.

What should the washer look like?

Ok, here is what my actual equipment looks like. I think it's the same setup as yours, camonick? If I'm following, I should try using just the regulator (with nylon ring washer), but without the fiber washer. Is that right?

What should the washer look like?

Hi all, I am setting up my first kegerator and I'm confused about what kind of washer goes between the tank and the regulator. I purchased a used 20 lb tank, swapped it out, and the new one came with a fiber washer that looks like this: I tried connecting my regulator, which looks like this...
