Ok so the American Ale II is working overtime because this morning I woke up to a pantry full of yeast trub on the ceiling, walls and floor. The airlock and bung got completely blown off. First time that has ever happened to me. Next few days will be scrubbing and repainting
Finally got some pacman yeast going off you a rogue oatmeal stout. Sat for almost a week with no activity and then boom it just started. No stir plate by the way
Ok so I'm new to harvesting and making larger starters. Question is this, how important is it to use a stir plate? Also is it necessary to use yeast nutrients?
After a week in the bottle I cracked one open for a taste test. All I have to say is I can not wait for this to fully condition. Great flavor and already more then half way carbed up. I'm really glad I added the extra orange peel to the secondary. It had a real nice orange flavor. Light and crisp
I cracked open my first bottle of this last night and man o' man is it good. Hops are fantastic, nice malt flavor, just a great overall beer. No one will be dissatisfied with this recipe.
Bottled this last night after a week and a half in secondary with extra orange peel. All the way up until now it tasted pretty good, now it's bitter and not as good. Hoping a few weeks in the bottle will change that
How dark did this come out? I love bourbon barrel aged beer...you get the best of both worlds. Any pictures or tweaks you would redo the next time around?
Brewed the extract version last night and woke up to an airlock full of foam. This thing is going bananas! Got a blow off tube on there now and we are bubbling away. I'm going to rack this onto some blueberries for the swmbo.
****Update***** 1 week deep and checked the gravity down to 1.012. OG was 1.053. Color is great and it tasted even better. Still young but can already tell this one is a winner!
I was tasting mine compared to a fresh 60 min and seemed like there was sweetness with the Dogfish but maybe your right about the perception part. I did the extract version though
