    WLP005 Question(s)

I wasn't able to get the actual readings from the fermenting beer because I don't have a thermometer that riches that far into my carboy, so I had to go by whatever the thermometer sticker said on the carboy. Although, when I did pitch, I knew the wort was at 65 because I took a reading before...

    WLP005 Question(s)

Hi guys, I recently brewed a pumpkin extract kit by AHS and used WLP005 as my yeast. My OG was 1.062 and I used a 1.8L starter. I pitched the yeast at 65 degrees and aerated the carboy but due to the heat, my carboy shot up to 70 degrees within a manner of minutes. I did the swamp cooling...

    Saison fermentation temp

I made the mistake by fermenting this one too low at around 68 degrees then ramped up to +75. I got aboslutely no funkiness or distinct flavors from the yeast (I was using WLP565). Next time I would just ferment at 70+ I think you'll be good with WLP565, especially at 70-75+ fermentation that...

    high gravity beer not carbonating

That's super interesting.. the only thing I can think of is that your primary fermentation temp was 5 degrees higher during primary fermentation. What kind of yeast are you using? Maybe your yeast has a low alcohol tolerance.

    Post your infection

Looks normal to me, I normally get that webby looking stuff of bubbles, yeast on top of my beer, looks scary but its harmless (at least for me).

    high gravity beer not carbonating

I'm having the same issues as well, I have a high ABV beer (around 10%) and its been about 4 weeks with absolutely no carbonation. I used WLP565 yeast to ferment the batch but there is zero carbonation, no hiss when I opened the bottle or anything. Its been hot at my place, so the beers have...

    Making my first pumpkin brew

Hi guys, I'm going to attempt my first pumpkin ale, I want to make a beer honoring the new upcoming season of fall. Fall is my favorite season, football and hockey is starting (I hope at least), The Walking Dead comes back on and weather seems to be more enjoyable. I never added any type of...

    Lemon hops??

I would go with Cascade and/or Centennial hops

    Post your infection

Did spiders get a hold of your beer? Looks like a family of spiders made their home on top of your beer lol As for drinking, I wouldn't say its dangerous, its just the matter of whether your stomach can take the funky sourness that may come from it.

Pitched a Saison a bit high - am I screwed?

I'm 4 days since pitching and its still has a high krausen, would I see any ill-effects because of the high temp during the first 6 hours of pitching?

Pitched a Saison a bit high - am I screwed?

I pitched my 2L yeast starter in my carboy between 70-75 degrees, I had the air conditioner going, so thinking the temperature would drop, my power lands up going down while I'm at work and the temp rose to 82 within 6 hours. When I came home, there was a lot of activity (krausen was pretty...
