    How much ice for icebath?

I like using 2 frozen 2-liter botles of water in the wort. sanitize them and drop them in, after the wort cools in a water bath for 10 minutes. It does not dilute your wort and cools it at the same time.

After 5 hours, just finished my first batch. Ended horribly help me fix it.

Most tap water is sanitary and does not have any microbes or other nasties in it. On occasion, tap water does have contaminates in it. On these occasions your beer could develop properties other than your desired yeast strains. On the whole, beer making is easy and simple. Most of the...

    Scrumpy's Farmhouse Style

Part 2 of the story: Bill had to argue with the locals to get served scrumpy. Then he had to scrape oily greasy stuff off the top of his drink. They would not give him a glass like the locals had, they only served him a little glass, midget-sized. He ended the night with a DUI. Bottom...

    The definitive aeration/oxygenation experiment

This was a great thread. Thanks to Bobby M and the others for their input, even though it was 3 years ago. Wonderbread23: I'd get nervous about the part where he puts holes in the gloves, (think about holes in condoms) Good info.

Hello from a quiet Michigan newbie

I just wanted to say hello and to thank the long time brewers on this site. I've brewed about 4-5 batches and am still learning the basics. The FAQ threads on this site are incredibly helpful. Thanks to all the "old-time" regulars who have made making beer easier for me. Brad
