Read the section on water in How to Brew and get a water test. Use Palmer's spreadsheet and arrive at the water you need to for your recipe's. My water changes have been the most positive improvement to my complete brewing process.
Brewing an AG Barleywine, 11Gal batch. Beersmith comes up with an OG of 1.110 for my recipe. I'm wondering how much potential is in the grain after my sparge to sparge again to brew a 5Gal batch of LG beer?
If the 11Gal batch has me mashing and sparging to get a 13.2Gal preboil volume at OG...
You might want to try the sparge with your hole drilled bucket in another non-drilled one then do a regular infusion of all sparge water, stir then raise the drilled bucket. Probably get better eff and must be easier than the aluminum foil approach. Looks good-I would appreciate the start to...
This is a great thread. You guys are on to something good.. BTW - If there's a suggestion box at the brew store, please tell the gal to take the 50 pound sack of grain off the top shelf, somebody's gonna get hurt :D

The coverage in the current printed revision of the book I found very helpful.
Also, when I'm working on water profiles, I use both EZ Water and Palmer's water spreadsheet and compare the results, just to confirm things. They...

Get er' done is right. My Cascades which were so-so 2 days ago NEEDED to be picked tonight and I'll finish tomorrow, When they're ready, they're ready.
*I got everything in range except the pH is at the high end *
Try increasing the RO % and watch the pH go down in EZ Water. Keep the salts constant (if they are arriving at the necessary values) and adjust the RO % to get to where you need to be. I have alkaline well water and for a stout I...
