I can attest to the timing aspect. Just keep trying, position yourself to be in the right place at the right time...hit up breweries that are just starting out, and don't give up. Make it happen.
100% incorrect. Russian River makes amazing beer. You boohoo about being able to easily get their beers, which are still cheap in relation to comparable goods, puhleaseeeeee.
There are so many factors in comps that you can't control, you shouldn't feel bad, just focus on improving where you can, like packaging/storage. Also, use this as fuel to brew more, better beer.
This happened to me once as I was setting things up. Honestly, there was a noticeable drop in the quality of the beer after it thawed, but it wasn't undrinkable.
Yeah, I remember being a bit let down when I first had it. Then I realized it was because I had tasted so many beers like it. I'm assuming these beers were attempted clones. Still, Pliny does the subtle things better than most others.
I think the best things you can do is taste it. Does it really taste like a blonde ale? Or does it taste like a pale ale?
Don't worry about numbers and color, worry about taste, as this is what the judges will mainly be going off of.
If it doesn't taste like either, enter it in both...
