Chinook instead of Brewer's Gold in Balantine XXX recipe

Thanks for the replies! I will try Grape & grain for Brewers gold. If this is good I'll do it again with the Brewers gold just to compare. The recipe sounded good when I read it and it'll be my first attempt at an APA:). I'm altering the original a bit based on what I have on hand. I'm new at...

Chinook instead of Brewer's Gold in Balantine XXX recipe

Hello all! I am brewing a Balantine XXX clone this weekend. The recipe is from BYO a several months ago. The recipe calls for Cascade, Cluster and Brewer's gold hops. I could not find the Brewers gold hops from my usual suppliers and replaced them with Chinook according to according to a hop...

    Plate Chiller: I'm in love!

Hi. I am using a Duda 30 plate chiller and it brings my wort to 68 deg in about 8 minutes (no recirculating, gravity fed). I was wondering if the orientation of the exchanger had an impact on cooling? Is there a best side up? Thanks!

    Stout Kettles?

I do the whirlpool by hand. I didn't even think of having the inlet installed when I bought it (should have). I did order the thermowell though!:). When you get it, follow the initial cleaning instructions. They look plenty clean, but you'd be surprised what comes off. Cheers!

    Stout Kettles?

You're Going to be very happy. I got my 9.2 gal. w/ thermowell in November. Using the whirpool feature, I drained the clearest wort ever (for me):) into the fermenter. You get less boil off with the shape and the mirror finish holds heat better, if I am not mistaken. Nice stuff!

Conical for Christmas... but which one?

I would wait for the Stout. I have one of their Brew Kettles. The quality is worth the wait. Tri-clamps, sanitary welds, conical bottom (Their kettles are conical), mirror finish. I believe the fermenters have all the same features. Six months is rough, but think of the fun when you get it:). I...

New Gear Review - Kettle and 30 plate chiller

Yeah, I had a feeling about that. I don't think my stove would have boiled 4 gallons w/ the lid off:). I need to get a burner soon. I got this kettle to do full boils anyway. It felt silly doing a partial boil in this thing. One positive is the wort tasted good post chill. Thanks for the...

New Gear Review - Kettle and 30 plate chiller

I know what you mean. My old 16qt boiled off a ton also. I left the lid on the new one during the boil, it was only 4 gallons. It boiled off next to nothing. Bubbles came out under the lid a few times. I wouldn't try it during a full boil:). The shape of the new one is great, but I needed a...

New Gear Review - Kettle and 30 plate chiller

Hello All! I have a review of 2 new pieces of gear I just got. 1- Stout Tanks and Kettles - 9.2 gallon kettle w/ thermowell ($268.00 w/ s&h) 2- Dudadiesel 30 plate heat exchanger ($83.00 w/ s&h on *bay) I just brewed my 1st batch with these two new toys:). The kettle is a conical...

    Possible infection?

If it tastes and smells good you should be fine. I brew a chocolate stout w/ cocoa nibs and get the almost the same bubbles. I get a similar taste to young's as well, although the nibs have more of a bitter, dark chocolate taste. It is probably from your source of chocolate or the lactose. I've...

    Whirlpool???

I have one of these on order http://conical-fermenter.com/products/brew-kettles/ . This looks like it should work well. Has anyone used these before ? I should have it in early November. I plan on brewing the day it gets here:mug: I'll post how it goes.

    A cocoa nib stout recipe

Hello all! This is my first recipe post. I figured I would try it before I posted it:). I found the base for this somewhere on the web. I changed it around a bit and this is what came out. This one is really tasty. I’ve taste tested it with about 10 people. They all loved it. The recipe below is...
