Cranberry Saison - Add cranberry to mash or secondary?

Yeah, he wants some cranberry flavor, but not overpowering. I'm thinking secondary....part of my reasoning is that this yeast was originally intended to be used for a Belgian Golden Strong. However, I don't want a Belgian Pink Strong. So if I add to secondary, my yeast won't be colored.

Cranberry Saison - Add cranberry to mash or secondary?

My buddy is having a holiday party at the end of December and asked me to brew a cranberry saison. Coincidentally I have 6 gallons of a Rye saison made with Wyeast 3726 - Farmhouse Ale that's done fermenting and ready to be kegged. He wants a very subtle cranberry flavor with a red hue. Not...

Critique my "Wheat Stout" recipe, please.

Thanks for the feedback xico. I should have mentioned that I'm planning on adding the dark grains at the last 10 minutes of the mash to prevent astringency extraction/bitterness. You just convinced me to cold steep instead.

Critique my "Wheat Stout" recipe, please.

Since there isn't really such a category as "wheat stout", I'll consider this an American Stout. I had a bunch of leftover wheat from other brews, so I figured I'd toss it into a stout to see what happens. I also have a 4 oz of Crystal 120. Should I add that or is that overkill with the...

Question about repitching on yeast cake?

I brewed a 5.5 gallon batch of this 3724 in the same size bucket and the krausen was only about 3". I'll be fine with another gallon. I was thinking before, I may siphon the wort off the trub into the two fermenters, dump the trub, dump the wort back into the brew kettle, add the yeast cake...

Question about repitching on yeast cake?

Awesome, thank you for the info. I'm using an 8 gallon bucket with 2" above the 8 gallon mark to ferment.

Question about repitching on yeast cake?

I'm brewing 15 gallons of a saison for my wedding. Instead of making a giant starter, I brewed 5 gallons with a 2l starter. The beer is finished fermenting so it's time to brew the remaining 13 gallons (brewing a bit more to save for after the wedding). First off, is there enough yeast in...

    Recipe Critique: My wedding IPA

I posted a recipe critique a few weeks back regarding a saison I'm brewing for my wedding. Now it's time for the IPA I'll be brewing for the wedding... I'm getting married in April and will be brewing 15 gallons of a saison and 15 gallons of an IPA for the wedding. I'm looking to brew an...

Is this used 15 cu. ft. Chest Freezer worth $165?

Thanks for your input. I have a 7 cu ft Idilus with a collar I built and I can fit 3 ball lock, 1 pin lock and a 20lb CO2 tank. I'm still on the fence about buying this. I really don't need 15 cu ft as I only ferment 2 buckets at a time. I could make a gigantic 8 keg kegerator, but I doubt...

Is this used 15 cu. ft. Chest Freezer worth $165?

Is this used Amana Deep Freeze 15 cu. ft. Chest Freezer worth $165? Found it on Craigs List. The current owner said it works fine and has it turned on now to show me it freezes. He originally asked $250, but after some bargaining he said he'd take $165. My only concern is that it looks kind...

    Wheat Saison Recipe Critique

Sorry, forgot to change the boil time to 90 minutes. Yes, the hops are very unconventional, but that's what I'm going for. An "American Saison". That being said, I'm going to cut the aroma hops in half so they're really more background notes and the yeast is dominant. I'm also going to...

    Wheat Saison Recipe Critique

I'm getting married in April and will be brewing 15 gallons of a saison and IPA for the wedding. I'll post another thread about the IPA, as that's a completely different animal. I'm looking for a dry easy drinking saison. Little bit of floral from American hops. Something nice for Spring...

Hoppy American Wheat Ale Recipe Critique

Yeah, I read Eureka is similar to Simcoe with the pine but also a bit of citrus/grapefruit. That's exactly what I'm going for. What should my temp schedule look like? I was thinking about starting at 68, holding there for 4 days (I read Ringwood is fast, which is why breweries love it. They...

Hoppy American Wheat Ale Recipe Critique

My buddy is having a charity event at a bar and asked me to brew 10 gallons for it. He said he wanted something that would appeal to the masses with a “spring flavor”. I decided on a hoppy (but not bitter) American wheat. Below is the recipe I came up with. Any comments or suggestions...

Possible to convert ball / pin lock to sankey?

This is correct. I'm bringing my corny kegs to a bar and want to connect them to the system the sanke system they already have in place.
