    Leaking system question

Was your system in the fridge before you set it? CO2 changes pressure in different temps. I had my tank filled to 1500 psi room temp. I put tank in the fridge and pressure dropped significantly. Thought mine leaked, but it was fine.

    Sulfur in Wheat Beer

Good Morning! I brewed a Lemon Shandy, fermented one in a 6 gal carboy and 1 in a 5. Apparently, I didnt leave enough headspace in the 5, and it pretty much locked in the sulfur and its pretty much fused into the beer. What do y’all think about putting it into secondary for a week? Will it...

    Brew Pal and iOS 14.5/.1

That’s good to hear. I’ve used it since I had my iPhone 4, and it’s always been good to me. I thought I was screwed losing all of my recipes, until someone told me the .xml files are universal to all the apps. The other apps are just a tad bit too detailed sometimes. Brew Pal is so cut and...

    Brew Pal and iOS 14.5/.1

Not sure what happened… but it’s back! Pretty sure I’m the only one that still uses this app. Makes sense, since Brewfather is free and good. I still like how solid this thing is though.

    Brew Pal and iOS 14.5/.1

I updated my phone to iOS 14.5, and Brew Pal no longer opens. My guess is that the new security feature is incompatible with this ancient software. Anyone know how to skate around it, other than the obvious… get an old device? I love this app and would live to continue to use it. I tried to...

    Watch out!!! Contents under pressure!

Quick funny story/life lesson... I was using my backup Genuine Innovations co2 charger today to push out some beer. I hadn't used this one in a while because I lost the barb that connects to the QD. Anyway, apparently I had left a cartridge attached to the charger and ASSuMEd that it was empty...

    Exploding fermentations

I've been Brewing since 2010-2011, and in that time I've heard of friends and others claiming that their fermentations had been so vigorous that bucket tops and air locks have blown off. In all the time I've brewed, doing various gravities and styles, I can't say I've ever had this problem...

What if I used two yeasts?

One of my best beers came from an accident. I had cultivated Conan from a couple heady topper cans, but somewhere along the line, I got some wild yeast or lactobacillus in it. As I was pouring into wort, I noticed a sour-like aroma. Quickly, I stopped pouring and grabbed a starter of inis006...

    Carbonating w/ 16g co2 cartridges.

I ran out of CO2 this weekend, and it's 4th of July weekend, so I'll have to wait till Tuesday for a fill. Anyway, I just successfully carbed my NE style IPA using 3-16g cartridges. My beer was cold crashed for 2 days and the keg was already refrigerator temp cold when I transferred from...

    Over Carbonation or Infection?

Isn't 32 degrees freezing? From my experience, beers explode at this temp.

    Over Carbonation or Infection?

Where are you storing these beers during carb? You should be around 60-70 degrees and out of direct sunlight. Basement floors are great in the summer. If you use a plastic fermenter and you use an abrasive sponge, it may be putting scratches that can harbor bacteria. I use a glass car boy...

    Pasta with a good mouthfeel.

Has anyone tried using calcium chloride for anything else but beer? I've heard of people using it to boost the mouth feel and body of coffee. Yesterday, I tried it on the boil water for pasta. It definitely made the texture of the pasta feel softer (wasn't overcooked), but I doubt I'd try it...
