    Fermentation/Krausen questions

Actually, I don't know whether shaking it now would be bad or not. I've only shaken upon pitching the yeast and it's not been a problem. Anyone else know this?

Primary & secondary versus only primary

Can someone shed some light on this subject? I've only ever used one vessel for brewing, as opposed to a primary fermentation unit and then transferring it to a secondary fermentation unit. Is it better, somehow, to do this, or should I just keep doing what I am doing?

    Fermentation/Krausen questions

Did you shake up your wort after you pitched your yeast? I have found it needs to be mixed up a little bit. Also, with powdered yeasts, I tend to boils some water, then let it cool to about 89-90 degrees and mix the yeast up in that, and then pour it into the wort.

    Greetings from a Beer Fan!

There is something to be said for bottling. You can't take a six pack with you to a friends house if it's all in a keg, though, I suppose a growler isn't out of the question.

    Old label removal?

Baking soda? See? That's the kind of thing I'm looking for. I've never been too enthused about using chemicals -- even bleach turns me off.

Dan I am SO jealous. I've been fussed at by my brewing friends to stop bottling and go to kegging, but I just don't have the cash flow at the moment for the layout. I have the growing family presently. No, I tell a lie. I HAD the growing family. Now it's shrinking with one of the three in...

Oh, did you use a funnel with a filter screen in it to get it INTO your carboy?

    Old label removal?

This is probably going to make me sound very ignorant, but I have no idea what PBW is.

When you siphon into your bottle bucket, try doing it through cheese cloth. It might be a little slower, but brewing beer is a patience lesson anyway.

    Old label removal?

Thanks guys! That's great stuff! I never would have thought of using Oxyclean.

    Old label removal?

OK. My friends have asked me why I don't take the old labels off the bottles and put my own on. This seems like an easy question, but the answer is difficult. How in the heck do you get the old labels off?! Darn commercial brewers must be using guerrilla glue to stick them on! Tried...
