    My first brew day

I've been watching this forum folder as well as reading up on http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/ for quite some time. I was pricing out a complete build then a turnkey system came available and I took the plunge! First brew was this weekend. Went longer than anticipated but I got 12 gallons of...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Well just made my second batch of this great brew. I bought the grain from an online shop because of a great deal. They shipped what was labeled at two bags of 5# of 2-row but there was an extra bag that just said 2-row. I assumed they just gave me extra grain. Well I learned an important...

My first scratch built recipe - Double IPA

I think it should come together well. The hopping schedule is inspired from Avery Maharajah but I used zythos for centennial and altered the profile just a bit. The corn sugar addition was inspired from Pliny to dry it out and bring out the hop front end. Time will tell. Probably wont taste it...

My first scratch built recipe - Double IPA

I've only been homebrewing for 14 months but below is my first scratch built recipe for a double IPA. I just kegged it tonight and the sample was impressive! Let me know what you think and feel free to adapt the recipe to your equipment and give it a try. Final ABV as measured: 9.5%...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

According to Beersmith I did 3.85 gallons in mash and fly sparged 3.89. Got right under 5 gallons after boil.

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I also used a 5 gallon cooler for this recipe and it came out at 80% eff and 9% ABV. Finished at 1.014. Delicious. It was to the brim with grain but mash then fly sparge worked great.

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I also fly sparged and hit 1.081. I bet you were just more efficient with the fly sparge. No complaints. Higher gravity = more fun.

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Some have tried but too much pumpkin sediment absorbs too much wort. I put the pumpkin in a paint strain bag and steeped in me strike water as it heated to temp for the mash. It made a nice orange pumpkin water that likely added some flavor. The truth is you probably don't need any pumpkin in...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I also just brewed this up today. Only my second all grain batch with my 5 gallon igloo mash tun and HLT. I pretty much followed the recipe exactly with the exception of just steeping the cooked pumpkin in a paint straining bag while I was heating up my strike water. I also fly sparged because...
