Strike water temps with BIAB PID controller

I have recently built my new ebiab system and got a few brews under my belt on it, but am still trying to get my process dialed in. The biggest problem I am currently having is figuring out my strike temperatures - and hoped that some of the guys with more experience would have some advice...

new to BIAB - mash temperature question

Thanks wilserbrewer! That's kind of what I thought re: the temp changes..but when I converted the recipe to BIAB it changed it so I wasn't sure. I will stick to 154* and hope it works out. I built a new E-BIAB system and will be using one of your bags for the first time tomorrow...the bags...

new to BIAB - mash temperature question

Recently I have started using beersmith and have been trying to figure out all of the settings. I have always brewed on a normal 3 vessel AG system, but will be doing my first BIAB tomorrow so I threw it into beersmith to see what it recommended. It changed my mash temperature from 154* (for...

what to do when step bits overheat?

Thanks for all of the help in here! I didn't have a file small enough and was too impatient to wait, so I went back at it with a different step bit and drill...just went slow enough and pushed it through and it worked! The edges were burnt I didn't think my drill had it in her. Thanks for the...

what to do when step bits overheat?

thanks for all of the help. I'm sure it's an easy fix but I've almost tripled my budget as is so I want to try and make this one work. I don't have much experience working with metal so you guys are a huge help - I'll go at it with a file first and then take it slow with my drill. thanks for all...

what to do when step bits overheat?

that particular bit had only been used on the one hole it got stuck on which is why I was kinda confused. the hole is probably .3" or so and I just need to get to .5" Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

what to do when step bits overheat?

the hole only needs to be 1/2" and I don't think they make punches that small. the step bit I was using on this hole was actually brand new...if the metal has been superheated will a 1/2" metal bit get through it? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

what to do when step bits overheat?

okay so I am working on an ebiab build and have successfully drilled my entire control panel and 3 out of 4 holes in my ss pot, then got stuck on the very last hole...and of all holes, it only needs to be 1/2"! The hole heated up just a couple of steps away and now I am stuck. I was re-oiling...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Sorry to keep bringing this thread back, but I had a question about the plug that was used in this build. I have been looking around for 20 A 120 V plugs and they seem to use the 'T' style plugs rather than a 'normal' 120 V plug...is this necessary? I will be using 2000 W elements, which should...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

sorry to revive an old thread...but I am having problems understanding exactly why the contactors are necessary. Why couldn't I just place the power switches/buttons between the PID and each SSR and leave out contactors? or even between the SSR and element? Are they really needed? i have been...

    King Kooker Dual Burner Cart...thoughts?

I have used this for 2 10 gallon brews now, both started out with close to 14 gallons of wort. brought it to a boil (on the top, weaker burner) in around 30 minutes. it's a lot sturdier than it looks! my boils were in the bayou classic 15g ss pots that I see a lot of people use on here, so i...
