    SoFla 2011 - Looking good.

P.S. My cascades grew over a centimeter in just a couple hours yesterday. They freaking love it down here. What variety did you get?

Cool, good luck. Keep in touch with your progress! Nice home selection and websites, btw.

    SoFla 2011 - Looking good.

My guess is they're at least 10 gallon. Much bigger than a 5 gal bucket (see pic). The Cascade is growing like crazy. I just started marking it to see what the daily growth is. Burrs starting to form already! By pcoyle25 at 2011-03-21[/IMG] By pcoyle25 at 2011-03-21[/IMG] By pcoyle25 at 2011-03-21

    SoFla 2011 - Looking good.

I remember waiting a while for mine as well. I think I got them right about this time last year. Bines were breaking the surface of the soil within about 2 weeks and I was concerned that they were coming up too early. Obviously frost isn't a concern, but I was harvesting in July. Then I got some...

    SoFla 2011 - Looking good.

They most certainly will, Mr. Banker. I started these last March and got 1.5 gallon size freezer bags of Cascade. Not a lot of weight, but made me happy to get positive results. Centennial didn't fair as well - just a few handfuls of cones and it's lagging far behind the Cascade right now. I'll...

    SoFla 2011 - Looking good.

3.16.11 - 2nd year plants. Training the strongest looking bines up the mason's twine (1st try with that stuff - it's already stretched a bit on its own). Clipped a bunch of little shoots around the base of each and they just keep coming. Anyone think I should clip what's showing here and let...

To pot or not to pot; that is the question.

Same question as wuertele - If the hop roots escape a container, will rhizomes develop from those roots or will they somehow self-propagate outside of the container? It seems like if the answer is no, it would be a great method to "trap" the rhizomes in containers and just let the roots go wild...

Growing hops in planters. Any advice?`

I'm in South Florida. Mine are in big 20"-24" (I forget which) plastic containers I got at my local nursery that I drilled holes in the bottom of and used good potting soil. 1st year I placed squares of landscape fabric underneath and a few small roots snuck through - not to mention the lawn man...

    Getting ready for year two.

I had the same exact problem last year using jute twine from Lowes. It broke several times and the hops suffered and I had to jury-rig it towards the end of the season because the bines had grown to the top. The package says "heavy duty" and "use for gardening", but my South Florida summer sun...

    Fall growth worth cultivating?

For some reason the pic links aren't showing up.

    Fall growth worth cultivating?

I live in South Florida (north Broward County) and have hops growing in containers - 1 cascade, 1 centennial. I planted them last March and they were producing cones on 10-18' bines by June. The bines gradually declined towards late summer and had minor sidearm growth with undersized leaves...

    1st year hops "not usable"?

Thanks for the info guys. I brought this up because my Cascade plant is going CRAZY with burrs and already has a few handfuls worth of an early crop that came out about a month ago. My Centennial plant has a bunch coming out now too. (2 plants total) I'm growing them in containers in South...

    1st year hops "not usable"?

So a buddy of mine who I had been planning on sharing some of my hops with now tells me that 1st year hops are "really not that usable" and that he basically isn't interested in my hops. He had a bad experience trying to grow some himself a year or two ago and I guess used whatever he got out of...
