    Priming

Can anyone tell me if there is any benefit to using say, light spray malt instead of household sugar when priming? Or does it not really make a difference at this stage?

    Beer Kegs help

I have a King Keg Top tap beer barrel which I am about to fill with my first ever batch. I intend to start my next batch as soon as i've cleaned and steralized my fermenting bucket so I am going to need another barrel. I know that top tap barrels take the beer from just below the surface so...

    No fermentation

I've just checked it and there's some blotchy marks on the lid when I look down on it so somethings been happening in there. How important is it to re-hydrate your yeast, i've only just read about that but as I was following the instructions on my beer kit I didn't do it it just stirred in...

    No fermentation

Okay, thanks for your comments guys, I will use an airlock in future, I've got one on order now but won't be able to fit it until I start my next batch. The only way you can buy a fermentation bucket with an airlock over here is if you buy a secondary one. Looks like it'll be a DIY installation...

    Dirty Tap

Set up my first batch yesterday and it is currently fermenting in the cupboard under the stairs. Now i've thought of something and think I might have screwed up. I Steralized everything before I started but i've only just realized that although I steralized my fermenting bucket inside I...

    Gypsum

Thanks for your help guys, the water here is really hard and limescaly, not soft ,dunno about sulphates? I think the water here where I live (south England) is high in everything, nice and cloudy from the tap:confused: Since it's my first ever brew i'll try it without gypsum see what happens...

    Gypsum

Hi Guys, I heard that adding a teaspoon of gypsum while mixing will help produce a cleaner drier tasting beer when making bitter, but at what stage do you add this, when mixing glucose and water? when you add the yeast? Sorry if i'm sounding really dumb but i'm really new to this and am about...
