5-1/2 foot DIY Hood for approx. $75

6" vortex fan here...full bore with another fan on the far vent side to limit condensation dripping too much. I've calculated a 1.5gal/hr boiloff rate though...so ymmv

    2015 Hop garden photo thread

Doubled garden size for this year to 16 plants. All of last years (mix of GreatLakes and some rhizomes) are scary looking, and double in size every few days. 4 of the new are GLH Cascades, and randomly got a few rhizomes to give out to coworkers but ended up hanging onto a few.

    Dogs and fresh hops

I thought most of the issue stems from dogs eating trub/spent hops post boil, when they're deliciously covered in sweet wort. Never seen any dogs take an interest in my hops. Also fenced my hop beds off.

My newly expanded hop yard with pics, winch system etc.

Someday...someday I will coerce my coworker with a tractor and 24 acres to let me do this. Fantastic work and truly inspirational.

Given your location, I'd imagine your growing season is our 'winter'. Sounds like hops to me! :ban:

New England Grain Buy January 2015

Just wondering what the stance was on DME...looking to add a sack of BM-5748 to my order if possible. If it is too much hassle, I understand though.

Camco 5500W ULDW Scorched Back to Back Brews

Just adding my experience with my setup. 240v, 5500w UL camco running off a MyPin TD4. Have a decent boil from 65% with 7gal, and 75-80% with 12gal. I have noticed some of the protein does stick to the element, but no noticeable scorch off flavors yet. I do spray/wipe it down when cleaning...

I'm sure it would be fine. Now that you mention it...I think I have some plastic paint around here somewhere... :ban:

    Advice on Bulk Hops Purchase

It depends on what sort of IPA you want to make. If you want anything in the ballpark of Heady/Pliny you'll need more than a lb per 5 gal batch...my biggest is 24oz with most in whirlpool and 8oz worth of dryhopping. I usually only do something like that once or twice a year, but still...

New England Grain Buy Sept 2014

Finally running low from the previous buy...I'd certainly be up for the next round where ever it ends up.

    FT - MBC Dinner

Hung out in the freezing rain with a lot of awesome people yesterday for a case of Dinner and after gifting several I figure someone might want a bottle to try. Would be open to trade for other special release or hard to find beer (in New England). Been wishing for RR Temptation/Consecration...

    What's your profession?

Bike mechanic... with a Masters in 'Armchair Engineering'. Heh. In the cycling community, a keg always seems to make a ton of friends.

New England Group Buy May 2014

Same. :( Pretty much the only weekend of the year I can't get out of. Still looking for anyone who can hold my 7.5 sacks until Monday/Tuesday. Will toss in a few bucks for your (very appreciated) effort.

New England Group Buy May 2014

Anyone in Boston area or North who is able to grab my six 2-Row, one MOPA, and a halfie of Rye? Won't make it Saturday/Sunday due to absolutely mandatory work event, but can head down Monday onward. Would throw in for gas money/generosity. PM if interested.
