has anyone tried donating a how to brew day to a school auction?

I like the idea of auctioning off a brew day. here is my experience. Not a lawyer. Live in the great state of CA. I would think the idea of selling a brew day that included the beer is probably against the law. Now, I doubt you'd get anyone enforcing this. In CA, we do have a...

Using extra corny keg to supply cold water to glass rinser

i imagine the next best thing would be to run enough line in your keezer. I'm not even sure if you'd need to run copper or anything. Consider how often it would be used. As long as the the tube holds enough for like 2 blasts from the rinser. You'll likely have enough time between rinses for...

Using extra corny keg to supply cold water to glass rinser

I use a setup like this for my portable server. I'd not worry about the water supply. Just fill the keg with water like it was beer, if you can split your c02 so you can push it at around 25 or so PSI. In a rinser capacity that five gallons is going to last a long time. Only cost is a...

What type of liquid for my glass rinser

Hello fellow brewers, Getting ready for a few rounds of non-profit events so bought a glass rinser. It's going to be installed on my 4 tap portable kegerator. I tested it and it will work fine powered by squirting via a corny keg. So I'm thinking the following options... 1. Cold water 2...

equipment upgrades you wish you had from the start

By nature a mizer so take this for what it's worth. I brewed a long time ago and then restarted about 4 years ago. My restart was conditioned on a couple things: 1. all grain 2. Keg (no bottling) But I don't think you can get there without some slow trial and error and deciding if you are in...

I'm so happy, thanks you all.....

So I had an intermittent problem causing some real bad bad batches. After reading up a bit I had assumed it was related to yeast temp causing the dreaded band aid flavors. I never felt perfectly good with this explanation since I have good temp control. Also, the appearance of this flavor...

two years in my fridge...will my wild yeast perk up

Well i was about to give up on the starter. took it off the stir plate and observed some bubbles. Another day on the plate and it is for sure alive. Took it off and cold crashed. So, it took 1l at 1.040 down to 1.000. The "beer" was not very funky. If I remember right last time I used...

two years in my fridge...will my wild yeast perk up

so this was from an overgrown starter. made a 1000ml starter. Its been on the stir plate for almost 2 day and dies not look promising. I do have another jar that is the slurry from the last time I brewed with this (probably like 20 months old). I'm thinking of dumping some of this into the...

two years in my fridge...will my wild yeast perk up

After a short discussion at one of the local breweries I decided to bring back to life my one wild yeast I caught. It made a decent strong raspberry ale about 2 years ago. When I caught it I grew it and kept some for "later". Well the jar says 9/1/2015. This is now later. whipped up a...

Jay sells a gasket that fits around the rim of the wide metal part. Check his website or he'll probably chime in.

Are you using a Speidel fermentation tank? NEW PRODUCT from Nor Cal Brewing

what Dcp said. Get the new gasket. My normal practice is 1. ferment with tube at about 7 oclock 2. If I want to take a sample turn it up to 12 oclock 3. if ready to rack turn it up to 12 o clock and then as I get towards empty twist slowly to eek out another quart or two without getting...

For those that use a ten gallon pot: what is your typical preboil volume?

Pre boil is around 7 gallons but you will use about 9 gallons total water. I suspect you're 9 gallons is total water needed. Somewhere like 2 gallons are absorbed in the grain.

Switching to kegging -- Ball Lock or Pin Lock?

I went all pin lock mainly for cost. I can get <40 bucks shipped if i wait for the periodic sales. other than size I'd say the major cons for pin lock are the following: 1. no manual PRV. I've bought a ton of lids overtime to make up for this. This does sorta kill the financial part of...

    Losing co2 - can't find the leak

after chasing down too many leaks i found the best way is to first confirm the kegs alone are working. I first did the bathtub process but that's a pain. The best way to do this, empty keg, hit with like 30 psi, check with spunding valve. wait 30 minutes check again. I was able to find...

here is what i did. i actually managed to lose the gasket. Take the one from the cap and use that for now. Don't tighten too much. right how i have another rubber washer and a little plumber tape while i wait for the gasket of the gods from Jay. or try to use that. And to add...
