Anyone have any lines on CHEAP soda/corny kegs?

I was at the St. Louis city museum, which is basically an old shoe factory filled with random donated junk/scrap that has been welded and glued together into a massive playground (Google it, its an awesome place), and saw a wall made of corny kegs. I couldn't believe it, there had to be...

    Devil's Backbone 8 Point IPA

They may just be my favorite brewery. IPAs usually arn't my first choice but I do really like this one. I love the Vienna lager and the Turbo Cougar blonde bock.

Best Book to read about Home Brew?

I really like Radical Brewing. It's a fun read, and gives a lot of great ideas on techniques and ingredients to use. The recipes look great too. I haven't made any I just use it for inspiration to make my own, but the 12 Beers of Christmas always get great reviews on this forum.

    Beer People are Annoying

Fermented beverages are one place where I don't understand snobbery. So many of these tastes are strange and 'aquired' that it doesn't make since to bash what someone enjoys. If someone likes to drink a mixture of chewed corn and saliva fermented in a gourd I'm just amazed that they figured...

Any reason why you can't mash using hot fruit juice?

Maybe you could mash with water and sparge with apple juice (or vice-versa)? Actually mashing with juice and sparging with water might the best way to deal with efficiency issues. The water sparge would help extract some of the sugars your juice mash leaves behind, and the sugary juice that...

Could I brew 6 gals, add water to make it 12?

Its pretty commonly done for extract batches and the only real issue I've heard of is the difficulty mixing wort and water to get post-dilution readings. Maybe split the 6 gallons up before diluting so you don't have to worry about how well mixed it is and ending up with a weak beer and a...

    Need authentic German lager recipe

Pilsner extract and noble hops. Can't get much simpler than that. The brewing classic styles recipe that's been posted should be a good one.

    Need authentic German lager recipe

I don't do much extract brewing, but I do brew a lot of German lagers. Any particular style? Pilsner, helles, dunkle, bock? If youre not sure do you know which part of Germany he was living in ? Check out the recipe section and you'll probably find what you're looking for. Many of them have...

    Shelf Life of Crushed Grains?

I've used crushed grain that was in my pantry for 2-3 weeks in a brown paper bag. I didn't taste any difference in the final beer. As long as it stayed dry crushed grains keep well, so as long as it's not damp in you freezer you're good to go (well Id taste and smell them first)

    Building a mash tun question

I used home depot brass and haven't had any issues with my mash tun. I suppose I wouldnt notice the slow lead poisoning happening from the few ounces of brass coming in contact with my beer, but I'm not too worried about the lead free fittings either. Its not impossible to make brass without...

    My lucky day

Brew days usually run pretty smoothly for me, but today was an exception. I had a smokey bock, and an octoberfest on deck. I was stirring the mash after doughing in the first brew when the wife asks me to make a run to the grocery store. I have an hour, no problem. 20 minutes later I'm...

Wow, didn't expect to see that safety label on my new Perlick faucet boxes

Perlick confirmed the label is for lead content of brass used, and it was a mistake for a stainless faucet to be packaged with the warning.

Wow, didn't expect to see that safety label on my new Perlick faucet boxes

This thread might be a couple months old, but my stainless perlick faucet was just delivered with this lable. It was one of the creamer faucets. The regular stainless faucet didn't have the warning so maybe lead is the secret to a creamy head? I'll see if perlick can tell me where they put...

    Coors Batch 19

Glad to see so many likes. I hope the big brewerys will continue making bolder beers, and hopefully converting some of the BMC crowd. I wasn't too big of a fan of black crown though. Batch 19 definitely isn't an IPA, and isn't trying to be. Just a more flavorful lager. Who knows maybe well...
