I've been using a mix of savogran TSP from HD and oxyclean free (30/70 or so). Never had any problems like you describe. Is the oxy cleaner you are using free of perfumes and dyes? Maybe could be something to do with the water profile where you are, or the concentration you are using.

Does anyone know if there is a 5cf chest freezer out there that can fit two better bottle fermenters (6 gal)? I'm thinking possibly having one on the floor and one on the shelf, and putting in a wooden collar high enough for the fermenter on the shelf.

I always use my SQ14 on my wooden deck with no problems. For the last 6 months or so it has been elevated about 6" on my brew stand, but I set it directlyon the deck before that. I'm not saying it's ok, just my experience...
