I had a big aphid problem last year, this year not so much havnt really noticed any. I have bought 1 bag of lady bugs so far this year. There are a couple of tips I can give you on how to apply them.
1. release them at night
2. spray them with sugar water before
3. release them at the base...

i had real good luck with some blood meal, Miracle grown 12-0-0. Couple of my plants were kinda yellow and slow growing. Sprinkled the nitrogen on there and let the rain from Seattle do the work. Now there growing crazy and leaves are all consitant green.
So im on year two of growing hops. i have a kitchen window that bumps out with roof overhead. Maybe like 14-16 feet up. So my thought is around 12 feet or so ill tie up some rope and do a horizontal line and wrap the bine around that. Im fully aware that it will want to go toward the sun and...

I live in Seattle Metro and my hops did great for first year. Fuggle grew like a bat out of hell and got to 18'. Cascade and Chinook came in a close second at about 15" my Wilamette and goldings did ok, got about 10' before the aphids got them.

So im on my first batches of mead. They are about 2 months old and have pretty low gravity reading. Between 1.010 and 1.000, i have 2 batches a traditional and a cyser.
So my main question is it bad to get a mead cold? i have them in my basement and its 27* outside and i have crap insulation...
