A low density heating element? Does that mean the outer surface of the element doesn't get quite as hot?
Surely that would take twice as long to boil wouldn't it?
I think a normal element and just keep stirring is better, no?
Thanks for the previous replies! I've decided to use my 37 litre stainless steel stock pot, but will convert it.
Now I've read somewhere that all the fittings should be stainless steel because if you boil brass, it can expose the lead?
So I'll drill and fix a stainless lever valve at the...
Hello guys. I used to use this site a couple of years ago for advice on extract brewing. I've probably done 6 or 7 of those now with mixed success...I still do the odd one, however I am looking to move into the world of all- grain ...
My issue is... I bought a 37 litre stainless stock pot a...
Hi guys. Here's a question for you. My hydrometer reads 0.998 at 20°c which means it is 0.002 out? Is that correct?
I am guessing I would have to add on the 0.002 to my readings but when I took my original gravity reading, It was 1.050 at 18°c.
I kind of rushed it a bit! How can I work...
Hi. I am in Southampton, England. for your typical British ale, theyre brewed between 18 and 22 degrees I believe. My flat is around 17 In the day until I get home from work and stick the heating on!
Hello all. It's been a while since I've been in here! I've been home brewing for about 3 years now I reckon but in that time I've only done about 5 brews. I've stuck with woodfordes kits purely to try and get one to my liking before moving on to a different brand. I've got a bog standard 23...
Thanks for the reply.
Firstly I have only been doing Malt Extract kits (pre-hopped) so in theory it is the simplest form of brewing, yet I cant get it right!
With the Malt Extract kits they don't require a boil as such... instead you are supposed to boil up a certain amount of litres...
Getting fed up with brewing now! 4th attempt and still I am struggling to get the ABV over 4%
Ive only used ever used Woodfordes ale kits... Admirals reserve (twice), Nelsons Revenge, and Now Wherry.
The first 3 attempts went from fermenter to bottles and the most recent attempt has gone...
Okay, So the brew has now been bottled and is now sat in 'secondary'. My ABV appears to be 3.9%. Will this pick up at all during 'secondary'?
3.9% is fine for an ale, but on the box is says you can get a maximum of 5.5%.
I was advised to use a single vessel to ferment and bottle from...
so if i want to increase the abv, i simply add x amount of corn sugar along with my chosen pre hopped liquid malt extract? how much would i add? i believe the calculator is meant for the bottling phase?
the manufacturer of the malt extract i plan to use says it has already been boiled in the factory, and wont need to be boiled again. is that the case with all malt extracts?
Yeah, an aquarium heater would fit inside the fermentation vessel. I assume it would be hard to keep it sterilized? trouble is, a heater tray or belt apparently get too hot!!!
and yeah i was referring to transferring the brew from the primary fermentation vessel to a bottling bucket. Not a...
