    Chilling after adding finings

I haven't made a wine kit in a couple of years but a few weeks ago I put on a kit and got to the finings stage on Monday last. I am away on holidays for the next week and the ambient temperature in the house is quite high. I have a fermenetation fridge for beer, which is empty at the moment, and...

    Mead finings?

I am about just about to start to make my first ever mead, hopefully it'll be ready for Christmas. Anyway, I have one question. Should I expect mead to be as clear as wine? Do people usually add any fining agent to mead? Also, when bottling, does the yeast settle down like beer, meaning you have...

    Strange looking Wine in Secondary?

Yeah, its strange isn't it. Would be a great head for beer! I left it about 10 days but Gravity was still around 1.022 when I moved (which looking back on now, I should have left!)

    Strange looking Wine in Secondary?

There is about 2-3 inches of head space there. To be honest, I haven't really taken much notice of head space, expect to make sure its not brimming to the top. Haven't had any problems either......until now!

    Strange looking Wine in Secondary?

No, its just a standard Beaverdale Pinot Grigio kit. Nothing different from the many I have already made......thats what so strange?

    Strange looking Wine in Secondary?

Can someone take a look at the photo below and tell me does this look normal? I have quite a few brews under my belt now but never seen this with wine (I have with beer and its normal). This only started to happen after I moved from primary to secondary. Its almost like the yeast is only just...

    Glass V Plastic

I have been, up until now, using primarily glass carboys for my wine making. I have plenty of plastic fermenting buckets that I use for beer and I was wondering if there is any reason why most people recommend glass for wine instead of plastic. I have come across some cheap food grade plastic...

    Kit gone all wrong?

Great stuff.....thanks very much for getting back to me, I was worried there for a while. I am taking notes throughout this whole process so none of this will be repeated. Thanks again.

    Kit gone all wrong?

Bump. Anyone have any opinions on this? My wine is in limbo at the moment and I am not sure what to so. Any help you be MOST appreciated:D!!

    Kit gone all wrong?

Right. There is a good chance that I am the idiot of the year. I got myself a turkey baster today to enable myself to take a sample easier. To try it, I sterilised it and took a reading. .0998 - WTF??? This got me thinking one of two things has happened. One, the yeast I put in, less than 24...

    Kit gone all wrong?

No, I never made it to Sorbate, it was next on my list. I have just added the yeast and literally within 30 seconds the air bubbler started going nuts....is that a good thing or a bad thing?

    Kit gone all wrong?

Great... I'll get it in there now and take another reading next week. Thanks.
