Pitched at 67
Made sure temps never got above mid 70's.
I did have some crazy blowoff at first
Pitched on top of a yeast cake from my last pale ale, which was Brewed with 6month old washed Roselare yeast (kept in fridge and washed very good) and Wyeast American ale smack pack
Maybe it was...
I just bottled a fruit ale (mcmenamins ruby clone) and it's got a weird rubber band-aid phenol, almost like the way the rubber airlock gasket smells.. Since I use starsan is it possible the acid caused this off flavor to leach out into my beer?
Possible from the tubing I use to transfer primary...
okay whew.. i looked now and the temp dropped to 64 so i took off the wet towel and removed it from the tub of water... we'll see where temp goes now, hopefully itll ramp back up and hold around 68
So I pitched a pale ale over the yeast cake of my last pale ale right after bottling it.
initial wort temp was 70 but then i added about a gallon of cold water which brought it down to 68ish (this was around 11pm-midnight)
this morning around 10 am I looked and the temp sticker was at 72...
So I have a 5gal batch of mead that's been sitting for well over 6 months (I'd have to look at my old posts to see exact age)
It's basically 12 lbs honey and essential oils were added during fermentation (fermentation was slow due to the oils)
Oils used were:
Cinnamon 20 drops
Wild orange 10...
It's not that concentrated, your supposed to mix the concentrate with milk to make a latte.. so think of it like weak espresso or maybe just regular brewed coffee that someone brewed with more than typical grounds.
Hey sorry for no updates!
my stout turned out good! the entire bottle was used for a 5 gal batch, I also added some unsweetened cacao powder to make it like a mocha stout.
the only thing I may have messed up on was using coconut palm sugar mixed with dextrose when bottling for my priming...
Woke this morning to find the airlock bubbling out the top with pink liquid and the small headspace I had in the carboys neck was gone. I removed a spoonful of cranberries and used my thief to take a couple ounces of mead out. Now almost the entire carboy neck is headspace so it'll be easier to...
Thanks for the reply!
Should I add some distilled water to give 0 headspace? I think I'd only need half a cup or so til the cranberries hit the airlock bung
So I just racked on top of 2lbs of frozen local blueberries and cranberries in an attempt to leave them in secondary for a few months then bottle.
But I didn't realize I should have smashed them. I added them all whole. Now the cranberries are floating lol, there's only an inch or 2...
there any way to make a starter and tell the same day?
or maybe I should pitch the second jar, and make starter with first jar and in a few days if its still ok I can pitch that in the fermenter as well?
So every time I drink one of my bombers I rinse it out with hot tap water a few times shaking it out and making sure no beer or yeast is left behind.
Then I spray a bunch of starsan inside and shake the bottle around to coat the entire inside and let the bottles sit in a cabinet with the...
