    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

Thank you for everything you have done. So I will try 1.5 tsp of each and see how it goes. I do not have a way to check the PH so I am just trying to get close. So far the primer as originally stated worked well. This is a recipe i have made many times so now just trying to hone in the water...

    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

So I have a recipe in BeerMmith. It is a pale ale. I am using RO water. It is for a 10.5 gallon batch. calls for just under 15 gals of water. I put 3tsp of calcium chloride, 3 tsp of gypsum and 2% Acid malt in the software. According to BeerSmith with the ingredients to include the chemicals it...

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

I am in the valley. You are very much higher in elevation than I am. I think it is like 100 feet above sea level if that. I do run at 1.5 qts/lb. the thing with my manifold the way it is now is that I have no idea if the thing is even at the bottom of the cooler. So a change is coming for sure...

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

Thank you everybody for all of your input. My PID controls the HLT which has the HERMS coil in it. the temp probe for the PID is inside the MT in a T. It is therefore measuring and controlling the HLT from the temp before re-circulation. So it seems I need to work on a few things. 1. make a...

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

So do you then start your timer for the mash time, say 60 min, after both of the temp readings are the same?

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

the PID temp probe is taking the reading of the wort as it comes into the MT from the HERMS. The HLT is being controlled by the PID, which is calibrated, 32 in ice water and 212 in boiling. so sounds like we are in line there except for that you suggest that I put the PID temp probe as it comes...

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

Now this could be the very problem. I am using a SS tube kind of manifold. I may need to go to a CPVC type of manifold to distribute the wort better. I did notice after draining the MT that there were channels along the side of the cooler. Not sure how that would happen since the tube goes down...

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

they have both been calibrated. :-)

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

I will think about putting the probe in the middle of the mash to regulate the HERMS. Try it that way. I guess I need to dial it in with a much cheaper brew :-)

    HERMS Mash Temp Problem

Hello All, I recently made a HERMS. I have used it twice and it has worked like a charm. Well I thought so until I had some of the beer that it created. It was very tanic and super dry. A classic problem of a low mash temp. The problem is that according to the reading from the probe on my...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I made one almost just like yours IZS. The difference between yours and mine was that I cut the bottom off of the bucket housing the mill. I then cut out all but the seal part of an old lid I had. So I put the cut out lid on an empty bucket and the mill bucket sits snugly in. I mill my grains...

    brown ale thoughts

Hey all. I am attempting to make another hazlenut brown ale. The first one was a clone of what Rouge does. It was a little too much of a porter / stout for my wife. She was wanting something lighter, crisper, dryer. This is my attempt at building a recipe and am looking for advice. 8 lb pale...

Corny Keg Pouring Hack on the Cheap!

I like the idea of not having to turn down the pressure to the entire system but since I am at the task of filling bottles or growlers I just turn down the CO2 tank to around 2psi, open the relief valve for the keg I am filling from and go about my business. When done I just turn the pressure...

mypin PID to run a DC Fan

So I have to supply the voltage to the alarm terminal? I do not have a DC supply in my box yet. I was hoping that the PID could supply that and I would not need to wire DC in. I know that the AC / DC circuit boards are really cheap and I could just buy a couple of them just trying to make what I...
