Doing my first 1 gal experimental batch this week. Used the recipe converter on beersmith to make it smaller. I've only ever used yeast smack packs and the converter tells me to use Two grams of dry yeast. Two questions. Does that sound like enough? And do I just drop the dry yeast in or should...
With yeast vials I'd need to make a started though wouldn't I? I've read you're supposed to do this 48hrs before you actually add it to your beer.
Is that the same for dry yeasts?
Hi guys. I've done a couple of 5 gallon all grain brews and I've now decided I want to do a couple of 1 gallon brews for more experimental stuff.
I use those smack packets of yeast. If I do a 1 gallon brew can I still use one of these packets?
The auto siphon was one of the best pieces of kit I've invested in after the necessities. Definitely worthwhile. Makes bottling cleaner, quicker and more efficient.
Cheers guys. Its going into secondary as well this one as I want to do my first bit of dry hopping so that'll give it a bit more time to clear up as well.
So I did my second all grain brew a week ago and it definitely went smoother than my first. The only thing I'm worried about was the yeast when I added it. It's a pale ale again and the first time I did it my krausen looked like little islands of silt. This time its very foamy. I just wondered...
Finding out they don't dry hop surprised me a little as I want to dry hop my next pale ale and wanted to copy their style. Will give it a go with the cascade hops though and see what happens.
I was thinking of dry hopping my next pale ale so this has been a great help. Couple of questions though -
A) is it best to use one type of hop or several?
B) how much hops should I be putting in, weight wise?
C) should you slowly move the hops around every now and then or will then floating...
So I should test my gravity again in two days and if its still the same then my beer is absolutely ready to bottle?
I know patience is a virtue but its tough to not be excited!
So almost two weeks ago I had a go at my first ever attempt at home brewing. Not only that but I skipped extract and kits and jumped straight into the wonderful world of all grain.
I've been using the site ever since and have resisted posting a bunch of panicked questions and searched and...
I was wondering the same thing before I dived in with my first attempt at brewing (I jumped in at the deep end with all grain I think). But I seemed to get by with the limited space in my kitchen. Its around 16 feet by five feet including all counter tops and appliances and I seemed to do fine...
