    Lagunitas Sucks clone?

The clone can not come close to the original. Lagunitas uses a house made hop extract that they use in this recipe. It is the same for the Hop Stoopid. These two beers will never be able to be done by a home brewer unless you have an inside source. I have a source that I can get hops from...

    Lagunitas Sucks clone?

I actually live two miles from lagunitas. According to the bartender there, the actual recipe has not been released to the public. He says the brew master is more stingy with that one than any other. They have released many, just not this one.

    Bottled in San Diego

I have heard of one brewery down there, has a native American name I believe, whose beer tastes like soap! My brother brought it to their attention only to be given an attitude. They said he was the first person to complain yet there are a bunch of reviews that said the same thing. Anybody can...

    Bottled in San Diego

LOL that is how we feel here in Sonoma. IMO we have two of the best ipa's around. Lagunitas IPA and of course, RR pliney the elder.

Bubbles forming with hop strainer bag around racking cane

That is a genius idea! They make large filters for paint sprayers that sound very similar. I will have to try this. Thanks!

    Bottled in San Diego

I am a huge fan of Green Flash and Iron Fist. I recently obtained the recipe for Iron Fists double IPA from the brew master there. It is dry hopping now and will be ready to bottle on Sunday. Definitely have good stuff coming from down there.

    Apparent vs. real attenuation?

Yeah it is from a socal brewery. Iron Fist. I got the recipe from the brew master there. I have to tweak it a bit because I overshot the ABV. The actual brew is a 9.6% percent double IPA. Mine came out to about 10.4%. It is definitely crazy big.

Bubbles forming with hop strainer bag around racking cane

It sounds like the bag may be too tight against the cane. Loosen it up a bit so that the hops are strained but the cane has some room to get the fluid in without too much work. With that being said..... next time place the bag loosely over the siphon end that you place in the carboy. This way...

If you had a time machine, what what you tell your beginner brew-self?

I would have to say that taking the time to understand yeast and fermentation temps is what has helped me the most. I still do extract and am finding that I can make some great beer if I am pitching enough healthy yeast and fermenting at the right temps. After mastering that aspect I would say...

    Apparent vs. real attenuation?

I use it so that I know how well my yeasties are. The 001 has an attenuation max of 80%. Meaning that your yeast will only turn about 80% of your sugars to alcohol. If you are near the top end you know that you did a great job of keeping your yeast happy and healthy during fermentation. I just...

    Sediment floating in bottles

I am a painting contractor and have found that the "stinger strainers" can be placed over the tubing and filtered that way. It is a small tube like strainer with a tie string on the top. It is made to cover the stinger tube on a paint sprayer. Just place it over the racking tube and siphon as...

    Shelf Life of Brewing Ingredients

I have been told that grains that have been milled will last no longer than two weeks.

    My 2nd brew, ipa.

    Boil such as possible.

    Trub

    +1 on that one!

    Lme

It is fine. It is just more than one type of LME in the same container.
