    Infrared Keezer Photo

Well I picked up a whole bunch of insulating/sealing materials today, but based on other IR camera findings they probably won't be finding their way into the keezer anytime soon. The beer is cold, so is the wife: cold beer good, cold wife......... Once the house is sealed, or summer rolls...

    Infrared Keezer Photo

I had my house audited for leaks the other day and while we were in the basement I had the guy take a shot of my keezer. Straight 2x6 ccollar construction, no insulation. 1/4" foam weatherstrip between collar and box. Collar case in about 5 degrees colder than the box. Thought I would share...

    American Brewery Lamp

At least in my house our lamps aren't subject to much manhandling or vibration. As such red loctite may be overkill and blue would suffice. At least gives an opportunity for some rework without drastic measures should the need arise. It does however reduce the odds of winning the bet when...

Munich Helles BierMunchers “Helles Belles” (Munich Helles, AG)

I was shocked at how dark this turned out compared to when I transferred it into the fermentor. I was also surprised at how hoppy the hydrometer sample was. Then it dawned on me that this was probably the IPA that I brewed the same day and I had labelled the fermentors wrong. If anyone has...

    RO Membrane Question

The main reason I thought to remove them was maintenance costs. I suppose if they aren't really doing anything they should last a really long time so the cost to maintain approaches nil. Thanks for the feedback.

    RO Membrane Question

I've been looking into upgrading my RO system as the under sink unit really isn't practical when it comes to the volumes required for brewing, and the unit I have springs a new leak every time I replace the ceiling tile below it so the whole operation is getting moved to the basement so now is...

    Help! Keezer collar height

I have virtually the same freezer with a 2x6 collar, kegs fit fine. If you want to store one on the hump you would need a 10" collar.

Help with braided stainless LP gas line

Wow! I've never been to the website before, just talked on the phone or went to their counter. The address is correct, I would imagine I've been dealing with the "Auto Cycle Marine" arm of the company, who will sell you small quantities of anything you want. But if I ever need hoses for my...

Harbor Freight Tools -- What works? and What doesn't?

Very timely. I was just using my HF tap and die set and yet again wish I'd ponied up for better. My logic at the time was I haven't needed a tap and die set very much. But every time I use my HF set, I am annoyed by how much it sucks. It gets the job done, but only after a lot effort I'd...

Has anyone modded bathroom scales to gauge beer left in kegs?

The biggest issue is sensor drift over time. Load cells are notorious for this, hence the need to zero the scale every time you use it. The question is does that drift cost you 1 beer resolution or 10 beer resolution. Same can be said for old throttle position sensors. The PCM relearned zero...

    Strange LP Gas Surge

I would replace the regulator. It sounds like it could be sticking, which is resulting in a larger hysteresis than intended, hence the surge. Sometimes this can be resolved by tapping it with a large heavy object, but rebuilding/replacing is generally the better approach.

Show us your DIY stir plate!

I put this together "until I get a chance to do it right" about a year and a half ago. I'm doubting I will ever get around to the next iteration. 4 scraps of wood, random piece of plexiglass, old pc fan with 5/8" ID washer duct taped to it, magnets stuck to washer, two clamps and some...

Maris vs 2 row Imperial IPA

I would try a 50/50 blend of 2-row and MO first. I had a similar thought to you on an IPA with a similar grain bill and used MO in place of the 2-row. It's a little unbalanced towards the malty side right now. It's good, but next time I think I'll back off on the MO.

New Sack of Grain = Lower Efficiency?

I recently purchased a new sack of Briess 2-row. My first batch on this sack I ended up with 62% efficiency, my norm is 72%, including batches made with 2-row. At the time I chalked it up to the high wheat content and it must have something to do with the wheat needing a finer crush, etc... I...
