    Thick homemade yogurt?

I use an electric heating pad set on low. I put a small metal baking pan on top in which I place as many quarts or pints of mason jars filled with my yogurt mixture that I want to turn into yogurt. The jars are topped with plastic wrap and then covered with a dish towel for at least 10-12...

First time cider - strong yeast flavor

I am still a cider making newbie, but my two cents are: Don't grossly overpitch your yeast, after fermentation is over or where you want it...rack to secondary and put in the fridge to get the yeast out of suspension. Then rerack if there is anymore yeast that settles out. Time can help...

Heinie and P. Urquell no good

I am a newbie and I got the brilliant idea to bottle my beer in amber bottles (thats the smart part) and my cider in green glass. Well, the local bar had an ample supply of Heine and Pllsner Urquell bottles ripe for the taking, washing, and refilling. I only had about ten georgeous, shiny...

    Norcal newbie in San Rafael

Hello. I'm down in El Cerrito and got started a few month ago with some purchases at Oakbarrel Winecraft in Berkeley. They have excellent extract kits with everything you need for about $33. I did two so far and both have been fantastic. They have bulk LME and DME along with self serve grain...

Hello from the San Fran East Bay!

I just started brewing because beer is freakin' delicious. I like wine and cocktails too. My next tool that I will acquire to enhance my cocktailing is a manual ice crusher. The reason that I mention cocktails so much on a welcome me beer forum is that beer is a great mixer in cocktails...
