    Modified Son of Fermentation Chiller

Yes. It would work without the fan. Cold air falls, so by putting the bottles at the top, the colder air will fall (slowly) into the chamber. The issue would be that it would be very inconsistent and have little to no control. I've found that I use the fans as a notice when I need to change...

Thanks! my sister-in-law made the graphic in the middle, and I did the layout around it. Thanks for saying i suck :mug: I made the text information very basic, so as to make people only look at the awesome image she did. It was a conscious decision to make it plain and generic, i swear!

OG was way off from Beersmith

I did something the common sense way! :ban:

OG was way off from Beersmith

Yooper, Is there a good way to do this? i've looked, and didn't really see any advice on marking a kettle. I thought to use a scratch awl, as it would be permanent, but would make a place for stuff to live in the pot (then it gets boiled, so it may be a moot point). marker wouldn't be a...

OG was way off from Beersmith

Learn something new every day. while it makes perfectly good sense, the fact that the sugars would settle from first to second running would be WAY down on my list of things to check too. NOTE: Stir before reading.

OG was way off from Beersmith

I went small when switching to AG, and built a convertible mash tun (meaning i could take it apart and put it on a larger tun) at 2 gallons. My biggest issue was my Brewhouse efficiency. mine was at 70%, and I was still way lower than my targets. yours at 75% is probably too high as well...

This is for a beer I brewed Dec 21, the day the Mayan Calendar said the world ended. If the world really did end, I'd never be able to drink it, so I said "eff your mayan calendar!" and the name kinda stuck! Sweet Stout with added cold-pressed mexican espresso. My sister-in-law did the logo...

    Post your infection

I was hoping for that, but with the sour fruit smell coming with it, i figured i'd step back and punt.

Yeah, so my first AG experiment has completely not gone to plan. Fortunately, it's only a 1gallon experiment. This is what I saw when I opened it. Supposed to be an Altbier, but most likely it'll be drain cleaner :\

    First Beer Creation - Thoughts?

I'm more concerned about the Altbier recipe itself. the Old Bay is an adjunct, and the beer would be perfectly fine without it. I'm mostly curious about the base beer itself, but appreciate your input.

    First Beer Creation - Thoughts?

OK, so I got a copy of BrewSmith for xmas, and have been toying with it some, but I got this wild hair to make a beer flavored with Old Bay Seasoning (if you're East Coast, you know what I'm talking about). If you have no clue what I'm talking about: Old Bay So, after considering styles...

    Best brew for beginners?

Darker beers are more forgiving. Plus, you don't have to worry as much about clarity in a beer that doesn't let light pass through. The first beer i made was a Red Ale. It was very straightforward, nothing too difficult, and had all the steps you'd normally go through in brewing. Plus, I love...

Question about equipment and primary/secondary fermentation

you can choose a bottling bucket, or use a carboy as your primary, and use the bucket as a bottling bucket. I find it easiest with 2 vessels to use, but both can be buckets for the sake of ease and price. Kits are often easy and will save money over piecemeal, but I also like to support my...
