Is it possible to make full flavored extract beers

You mentioned you did AG in the past - Are you using the same water source as you were then? I notice a huge difference between tap vs spring vs distilled. The distilled tends to be very light and tap tastes like crap (might not surprise you if you've seen A Civil Action), and i have had great...

Homebrew Extinguisher Kegerator W/Battery Tower Cooler

Sweet.. how much did the kegs end up costing? I was thinking about getting a 3 gallon keg for experimental batches but the 3 gallon kegs that i have found all go for over $100.

OFFICIAL Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout Clone

I didn't mean to imply the Smuttynose Imperial Stout was the same as KTG, I was only responding to a general question about the Portsmouth Brewery (i.e., that their beers are similar).

OFFICIAL Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout Clone

Since no one else really answered this.... Portsmouth Brewery is a brew pub and doesn't distribute anywhere. Their sister brewery by the same owner is Smuttynose (not sure if they distribute out in OH) and their beers are similar. I grew up around there and didn't realize KTG had such celebrity...

    Scottish Ale Brew mystery

Also, FWIW I recently brewed a scottish ale with WLP 028 Edinburgh ale yeast and it fermented way slower than anything else I have brewed before or since. Mine wasn't nearly as high gravity but still took about 3 weeks of slow and steady fermentation before the gravity got where it needed to be...

    DIY Tap Handle?

Is that the "Buddy Christ" from Dogma? Love it.

    Question about co2 and fittings.

I drilled a hole just the size of the OD of my tube. Its a snug fit and I am not losing any significant amount of cold air through it. Try just drilling a hole and if you think you are losing cold air, caulk or put an o-ring on either side. You may be over-thinking this.

    belgian tripel fermenting

Curious - Why didn't you add sugar to the boil? Why after initial fermentation? I have a belgian tripel in secondary that started at 1.091 and was 1.022 when I racked to secondary. I used WLP500 w/ starter. Were you strictly worried about the yeast being able to handle it, or did I risk some...

Random thought about legality of personal brewers

I would think that under agency doctrine it wouldn't be an issue if the assistant was brewing within the 200 gallon limit for the principal's personal consumption (like you I'm an lawyer and also don't feel compelled to actually research the regs and caselaw). Interesting question though, and...

    co2 in the fridge?

What about the effect of the temperature in terms of efficiency? Meaning that, with the CO2 tank inside the fridge, the pressure drops from the cold, will that mean you can get less use out of the same tank? I know when I played paintball we tried to keep the tank warm to get more shots out...

    how to increase starting gravity?

That bit gave me the impression that quality was secondary to alcohol. No disrespect intended. Like others have suggested add a few pounds of DME and a but more hops to compensate. Best of luck tweaking that recipe.

    how to increase starting gravity?

If you want to brew a higher gravity beer you could: a) Find a recipe, like a barley wine, imperial stout, imperial IPA, etc. that produces a high starting gravity. There are a number of recipes in this forum you can use. b) If you want to formulate your own, understand that the gravity is a...

    Imperial Stout Imperial Bastard Stout

[first post!] I just brewed this and, similarly, hit 1.077 for an OG, nowhere near the 1.099 in the recipe. The only way I can reconcile this is after accounting for boil-off in the recipe as written (i.e., boiling 2 gallons and topping off with 3), you actually would probably only end up with 4...
