    Fermentation Temps: Ambient vs Wort

Old thread but relevant during each Summer season. I use tall 1/4bbl Sankeys to ferment. These are placed in Brute trash cans filled with cold ground water (57F). Inside the Brute is 50ft of 1/2in copper coil. Coils were formed around 1/2bbl sankey...plus an inch. Starting the ferment...

    Hop Chute Project

The hop chute is very easy to clean. Takes 30 seconds to spray down. I've since built a larger version to accomodate more whole leaf hops in the brew. The wider model also doubles as the holder for the nylon bag when using pellet hops. - Pellet hops find their way through the holes very...

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

It's a good idea to pre-order your Citra now. The Citra hop makes such a good beer that it will be used even more this year. Regardless of todays brewery ZD, skeezer's all Citra recipe is fantastic. Working some other bittering hops is a good idea to ensure you have enough Citra for...

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

I was at the brewery two weeks ago. I was able to enjoy ZD on tap and also bought two cases on my way out. Today's ZD is not 100% Citra. This was confirmed by folks at the brewery. There is a strong aroma from the Citra so it's more likely they are bittering with something else....my palate...

Keggle Tri Clover Dip Tube Solutions?

+1 for the Brewers Hardware pickup tube. Works great. Requires a 1.5TC ferrule but it's worth adding.

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

Regarding larger batches. 20gal + I been using the trub/hop filter for 20+ batches. The average boil size is 30 gallons. I'm using a Duda Diesel 60 plate chiller. My goal when purchasing the unit was to use it to protect the plate chiller. The challenge is that I need to sanitize the...

Belgian Trippel Stalled!... I think.. Help Please

You should be fine. I suggest crash cooling the beer before attempting to bottle/prime. If you were kegging it would be an easy decision but to avoid making bottle bombs you should crash cool the beer first. Even though the beer has clarified from the cold temps (3-4 days), there will still...

Belgian Trippel Stalled!... I think.. Help Please

Give it a little more time. A slightly warmer temp may help finish up the beer. Otherwise, leave it for another 5-7 days. It's true that many Belgians strains like the warmer temps. I've found that allowing the yeast to build up temp naturally (start @ 64F and let build to 72-74F) results...

Any brewmagic users with BH trub filter?

Filter before the pump has worked for me. My pump is about 2 ft past the BH filter. Overall, I've been happy with the hop filter. At first I had the beer flow going inside the filter...basically backwards. Also, my best results have been keeping the device vertical. The pics on the BH website...

Any brewmagic users with BH trub filter?

What is the orientation of the pump-filter-chiller? I'm familiar with the chill wizard. My system uses a 60 plate duda diesel plate and I've been able to avoid pump priming issues to date. Very similar to he wizard. My BH filter is after kettle, then pump, then 3way ball valve, and then plate...

    Oxyclean and Vinyl Tubing

The slippery film is simply the residual from the oxyclean. If you use it, you'll need to rinse well. The hose is fine. Remember to flush with hot water and sani-clean before use. Otherwise you should be good to go. Brew on.

    Used 2lbs instead of 2oz

Since the patent malt is going to be quite edgy, you might consider blending in a lot of fruit (raspberries) and adding some brett to finish up the fermentation. Another option is to blend with a 2-row/honey malt beer. The honey malt sweetness will cut the bitterness of the black patent. A...

    Keg in keg fermentation

Has anyone else tried this? Three weeks back I brewed a 5.5 gallon batch of barley wine. After the boil, I transferred the wort into a tall ¼ barrel. My transfer temperature was a little higher than I wanted so I decided to put the keg inside a converted 15.5gal sankey filled with cold tap...
