Way too much head from keg.

This issue is killing me, because the above advice contradicts every single beer line balancing formula/spreadsheet/webtool I've found, which tells me given my temp, height, psi, I should have 5.5' of line. But I can't get the damn thing to pour without 50% head. I even installed a fan and...

Is it okay to keep the dip tubes the normal length, and just throw out the first few pints?

How to route beer line in a keezer so they are going "up"?

Based on all the great keezer build threads here I did one, and I'm having trouble with one thing: how to route the beer lines so that they are always going "up." I read that this is very important... but the keezer is gettign really cramped, and I tried taping the beer lines in lengthwise...

Do you know how to make a yeast starter? Then why not farm yeast and freeze it?

That's fine, except that how much yeast you have after X litres is completely dependent on how many yeasts you start with. So if you start with frozen slurry (that you didn't split up equally, or even if you did and you weren't perfect to the .1 ml) you need some way to estimate the slurry. Else...

    Starter step up question

Unless you're using a high floc strain, like WLP007, which I was surprised at how quickly it flocced out (even while still being stirred on the stir-plate).

    beer and intestinal gas

Will gelatin fining help reduce the bad gut reactions? Or will I have to filter? Cause I'm not feeling so great after drinking homebrew... This doesn't happen with filtered craft beer.

WLP007 strange starter behavior, or normal?

I'm not too worried, but I haven't seen this before so I'd thought I'd ask. I made a starter for WLP007 Dry English Ale Yeast (4 liters on a stir plate). 0 hours - At the start it looked like tiny pieces of yeast in wort. So far so good. 8 hours - After sleep it looked like chocolate milk...

    Am I fermenting too cold?

I for one am interested in it scoundrel. Nice job!

    Yeast growth calculator?

Sulli, that is an amazing tool. Well done. (And very classy. You're a web designer and/or a programmer?) I have one question -- why 50 - 100 million / ml inoculation rate? I just threw a WYeast pack into 4.5 L and after fermenting and decanting froze some of the slurry in glycerine... Was...

Understanding burners (get a new one in Canada?)

Please don't talk to me about the Riders... :) Okay, looks like Hop Dawgs has a few burners, that's great to know. I'll have to contact them and get the info on what else I would need (new regulator, if it can fit onto my turkey fryer setup as is, etc.). Thanks for the pointer!

Do you know how to make a yeast starter? Then why not farm yeast and freeze it?

Thanks everyone for a fantastic thread! I followed the steps and this is what I've done: I made a 4.5 liter starter of Denny's Favorite (Wyeast 1450), cold crashed it for 2 days, decanted almost all the wort, and then froze 4 30ml (8 dram) vials with a 15% glycerin solution. I made only 4...

Understanding burners (get a new one in Canada?)

I bought a turkey fryer propane burner and pot from walmart a few months ago (here's a link: 36 Quart Turkey Fryer, Garden & Patio | Walmart Canada - Save Money. Live Better. ). Problem is, it takes about 40 minutes to bring 30 L to a boil. Is there a replacement burner (maybe a jet nozzle?)...

How long until cold crashing a starter?

Okay, two votes for hydrometer, which leads to another question: how do you take a hydrometer reading of a stir plate starter without taking a whole bunch of good yeast with it? Put it back in the starter?? (wouldn't that raise the risk of an infection, especially for yeasts that are going to...
