    Columbus Winter Beerfest

Anyone on here attending, or attended in the past? Do they provide a brewery list beforehand?

    Buying Beer in OH

I thought the same thing, but that is how every store I've found in Columbus operates. Kroger sells cases of Miller, Coors, etc., but I have not found a single store that sells cases of micro, even Sam Adams. If I wanted to buy a case of 90 min, for example, I would have to buy six 4-packs...

    Buying Beer in OH

So I just moved from Pittsburgh to Columbus. As some of you may know, in PA beer is sold by distributors in 24-pack cases, or at bottle shops (and a limited number of grocery stores) in 6- or 12-packs. Obviously, the 24-pack is cheaper per beer than the 6- or 12-pack. Today I went to a local...

Pliny in Pittsburgh or Columbus, OH

Are there any Pittsburgh or Columbus residents who have found RRB's Pliny in either of those regions? In Pittsburgh, I have tried Dee's, Sharp Edge, and Brews Brothers, and none of them carry it. No distributors I know carry it either. If you have found it, in any form, in either of these two...

    Barley Wine did not carbonate

Right. I hadn't planned on adding more priming sugar, but I'm a bit concerned that the yeast might have thrown in the towel before fermentation had ended, leaving me with some fermentables (along with the priming sugar).

    Barley Wine did not carbonate

Yep, definitely intend to set the majority of this batch aside for some long term conditioning...at least once it gets carbonated. I think I'll go ahead and try adding more yeast to each bottle, seems like the most efficient method. Someone recommended moving the batch to a warmer area...

    Barley Wine did not carbonate

All: Thanks for the replies everyone, all great info. Revvy, with all homage to a well-regarded pimp-master like yourself, I honestly believe that additional time will not result in more carbonation. There is absolutely no evidence of any fermentation, despite a full 2+ months of priming. It...

    Barley Wine did not carbonate

Hi all, I brewed a barley wine in December, and bottled in May. Just popped one and there's no carbonation. Not faint carbonation, none. It's like coffee. Taste is excellent though! I'm guessing the high alcohol content killed the yeast during fermentation (this thing was big). I don't...

    beer trading

I agree that buying beer online and having it shipped to PA is a gray area. But I am fairly certain that, for example, buying it and sending it as a gift is not. Regardless, I agree that Pliny is not ultra-rare, but I can't find it around here, and I have tried several...

    beer trading

I have been to Dee's many times, and their selection is indeed great. I will have to ask if they will special order.

    beer trading

Well, I am a lawyer, and I can tell you there's nothing illegal about trading beer!

    beer trading

Is there a forum on this site for trading beer? I live in Pittsburgh and we don't get enough from the West Coast, like PTE. Of course, I'd return the favor and send something you would like, or I could just pay you. You could send a PayPal invoice to protect yourself if you're concerned about...

    forgot to cold break

I recently brewed my third batch, a barley wine. It was my first brew in quite a while, several months. A combination of laziness and false confidence led me to brew it without a quick refresher course from our good man Palmer. Anyway, after the fact I realized that I forgot to cold break. I...
