House paint that doesn't suck? Home restoration.

Benjamin Moore Arborcoat solid… Built a Craftsman/shingle style home in 2000-2003. Every one of the 17,000 cedar shingles was hand painted on all 5 sides, then installed as a rain screen wall on 1x strapping. This was Cloverdale top of the line oil base. Chalked in 4-5 years. Went with...

Grainfather Pro fermenter 3-pin power cord failure

McMaster-Carr has some M12 power cables. Might not hurt to look there.

Where can I get organic hops and malt if I'm in Canada?

Gambrinus malting in Armstrong have organic pale, pilsner, munich 10, and wheat. Hoohhops dot com in Lillooet advertise as organic. Gambrinus has a good reputation. I’ve never used hooh hops.

Bar top epoxy recommendation for covering caps and coasters

West System has a hardener specifically for water clear finishes. I've used it and when you use fresh resin and hardener, it works well. As the components approach 10 years, it starts out yellowish. The stuff I mixed and applied 10 years ago is still clear. Type 207 hardener. My wife...

    Best compliment you've received?

I took a growler of my house porter to my BIL's for dinner one evening. We opened it and started drinking and he said "This sure tastes familiar. I think I had this after my golf game this morning. It was from some brewery in Oregon". "Deschutes in Bend", I said. "Yea, that's it!", he...

    strain relief for tubing?

I use a spiral wrap wire loom product. http://www.electriduct.com/Spiral-Wrap.html Not this exact product but something similar and white. It also helps to prevent "bubbles" or balloons in the silicone tubing when it is under pressure.

    Kegerator Relay help

Hmm. First, find a different appliance repair place. Most start relays are the push on type. They may switch a capacitor in or simply connect the start winding to power. On small compressors, they can be replaced with a universal replacement. Check out...

    Pale Ale

I have the Garage Floor IPA full grain kit that I am starting in a couple of weeks. My first brew. Someone else was asking about Hopdawgs a couple of days ago. I picked up my kit from Chris in person. He doesn't sell from a store front, I just happened to be in town and arranged pickup...

    Help setting up 3 phase

Unsure of the codes in Japan... In Canada, loading is 80%. 80% of 30 is 24A. You could probably get away with 5kW elements. (200V * 25A = 5000W) A regular 5kW element rated at 208/240VAC would work, but as you would be operating at a lesser voltage, it will under perform a bit, but that should...

Building permits for a dedicated brewing room - hints?

Kal, British Columbia experience here... At first glance, you may have problems with the quantity of air you want to exhaust to the outside. Some jurisdictions require a dedicated, tempered make-up-air source to balance the outgoing exhaust, if the exhaust is over a certain quantity...

    Electronic part identification

Likely a high limit. Contacts open and interrupt current flow at 185C (365F). Replace with Klixon (Sensata) device or similar. Edit: OK, reading your post in detail, if you are sure that it was wired *across* line to neutral, it was a normally open switch, that closes on rise. At 185C it...

    PID Controller with Gas Valve

If your PID has an analog output, like 4-20mA or 0-10VDC, you can do down the Maxitrol route. The M4xx series valves are reasonable and then use a signal conditioner like an SC11-B. This valve is not a shutoff valve, it goes downstream of a combination gas valve and has adjustments for...
