You could also use a straight razor. You could pick up the little tool from the hardware store that holds the razor for scraping paint off glass. Soak the bottles, and the labels should come right off.
I did this a few weeks back and also got worried after two weeks without a fully carbed beer. I shook mine a little (nothing crazy, just to splash it). The next day it was good to go. It may have been a coincidence or may have helped it carb up. I just thought I'd share.

Russian River would be pretty awesome. If you stay in San Fran: BeerAdvocate just did a beer destination piece on the city. I think it is in this months' magazine. You should be able to find it on their website. Gives you the good spots to check out (breweries and bars). I wish I had checked out...
