Well, good news. I woke up this morning to fermentation already starting. That's a record for me--probably 8-9 hours after putting in the primary I have active fermentation! Hopefully this beer is big!
Yes, there is. A warmer liquid will be less dense, so the most accurate gravity reading is done at 60*.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm hoping for at least 7% alcohol.
Today I made a Stout roughly following this recipe:

This is what my actual malt was:
9lbs Light Extract (liquid)
1lb Roasted Barley
.5 lb Chocolate malt
.5 lb Black

Ok, so today I decided to break in my new burner with a fresh brew. I took a basic recipe from "Homebrewing for Dummies" for an IPA and spiced it up a bit. Here it is:
7lbs Light Malt Extract (liquid)
1 lb Crystal 30-37L
1 lb Victory 25L
2oz Chinook Hops (added at beginning of boil)...
I'm not setup for all grain, so the recipe would have to be extract. The last recipe I did had extract and some grains in a bag during the boil. Is this called a partial mash?
I'm still a huge noob so bare with me, please. The first couple brews I made I dry hopped with whole leafs in the primary. Now I'm reading that dry hopping is in the secondary. Which is it and why?
