    Kitchen sink beers

I'm doing one of these this weekend. Spring cleaning, out with the old (malt) in with the new.

Experiment of sorts: Spring Cleaning KSB

I was checking my malt storage and noticed I was just about out of 2-row and Vienna so I weighed them out and threw them in a bucket. I added all I had left of wheat, biscuit and then some crystal 10 and crystal 120 to bring the colour to a coppery hue (according to Brew Pal, which is how I...

    Dry hydromel

Yes, I added 8 grams of Saaz today. After doing a little more research, it seems that adding some flavouring and carbonating should help add some body. So I think I'll bottle it and carb it by bottle priming with a little more honey. www.gotmead.com was really helpful. If you haven't been...

    Dry hydromel

I'm so happy my post could help with bath time. Even if it was a little :off: Anyone else? EDIT: Just realized that came off kind of assy. Sorry about that. Not what I intended.

    Dry hydromel

I made a 1 gallon must with clover honey that came out to 1.065 and I'm using a champagne yeast (I like my mead dry). I added some yeast nutrients at the time I pitched. Has anyone else had any experience making a dry hydromel? I'm concerned that it may end up tasting "thin" and it may...

    I am currently fermenting Ovaltine.

Love this. I have a friend who wants to mash a box of frosted flakes. I keep telling him that's ridiculous.... Maybe not. If this comes even close, someone needs to try it with a warehouse pack of malteasers.

Help! CO2 blasting out of saftey valve

This happened to me. I took the tank to a welding supply shop and they disassembled the set knob and cleaned it out with some air (like the canned air for cleaning circuit boards). After that it worked ok. I think there was some dust in the set knob assembly. If you try to do it yourself, be...

How many bottles fit in a fridge?

You have an excellent opportunity here. Brew a ton of beer, cram as much as you can into your fridge, take a pic and post!

    Forward Sealing Faucets?

Do all the forward sealing faucets use special shanks or just the flow-control ones?

    oxygen permeability of plastic

I think you'll get more O2 in a smaller vessel, not less. Based on the surface area of the container in relation to the volume it contains. A 23 litre bucket with a radius of around 13 cm has about 170 square cm of surface area for every litre of beer. A scaled up version of that bucket holding...

Stop-gap fix for leaking liquid out post

I just re-tested it. Looks like it's working now. I'm still interested in getting replacement posts and poppets, though. The ones on there are a little dinged up and I think they're original. I have a beer ready for kegging in a couple days and when I thought my keg was fubared, I panicked.

Stop-gap fix for leaking liquid out post

Hey all, I've got a new-to-me Firestone Challenger VI keg. I pressurized it and sprayed with star-san. I've got little bubbles coming from the top of the liquid out post. I tried to get the poppet out, but it doesn't come easily and I'm afraid to pull too hard in case I damage it. I...

Can't get stone ipa here. I tried it at a beer festival in September and had to get back in line 3 more times. Soooo good!

    Favorite beer/brewing book?

+1 on How to Brew and Radical Brewing. I constantly reference htb and go to Radical Brewing for entertainment and inspiration. I use the brewing log sheet from Radical brewing as well. I own Brewing Classic Styles but I agree about the ag being like an afterthought.

Just home from the LHBS w/ 70 lbs of grain + more

Do you have much experience with the gambrinus esb malt? I've heard it can be a bit heavier than Maris Otter, and needs to be tempered with some pale malt or 2 row. I've got a sack as well, with a brown ale in secondary where we used 2/3 esb and 1/3 pale as the base.
