    Heater Runaway During Fermentation

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/temp-controller-measuring-temp-reliable.597636/ Iwas using a simple heating solution last winter that was low cost. The benefit of one of these cheap wall adapter controllers paired with a warmer is that it won't be subject to wifi issues (of which I...

Yeast dead? Harvested yeast slurry and put in fridge.

I have a few jars of yeast in my basement that has been stored at 68 Fahrenheit they're probably about 4 months old now. do you think the temperature and age mean I should toss them or you think I could reuse them?

Yeast dead? Harvested yeast slurry and put in fridge.

Last night I added 1-2 cup distilled water to the thick yeast cake after bottling and swirled it good to mix it up. I then transferred to a sanitized jar and put it in the fridge to separate the sludge from the yeast. I forgot cold may harm yeast. So I took it out this morning. Do you...

    Temperature question with priming sugar

Thanks guys for confirming this process is okay. The reason I asked is I'm actually trying to troubleshoot my process to figure out why all my beers have a kind of acrid / fussel taste to them.... My ABV is usually like 7.25%... I now think it's that my recipes are steeping too much...

    Temperature question with priming sugar

I boil water (usually a cup or so) in the microwave to sanitize it, then stir in my priming sugar. I then pour this into the bottom of the bottling bucket and rack the beer on top before it really cools off. This is a matter of convenience. But I figured the temp variance isn't a problem...

    Lions Winter Ale, wood chips?

Does anyone know what that flavor is in Granville Island Brewery's Lions Winter Ale? (If you haven't tried it, get some now!). It's got a chocolate finish, but also something else. It almost tastes like sherry or oak chips or something. Does anyone know what the secret ingredient might be...

When you only buy beer from the store on occasions when your homebrew isn't finished conditioning and you don't want to waste it by drinking them too early

    Low ABV habenero?

I bottled today. Cold chilled to clarify for 12h first. I had about a 5oz taste. It was on first tasting like just a light beer (3.25% ABV) and while I held in my mouth it didn't intensity either. But upon swallowing I can taste a good smoky habernero flavor with a mild kick and feel...

    Low ABV habenero?

Oh man. I just added the tincture to the wort as the fermentation has nearly ceased. I had a taste of the tincture (like a drop or two) and the heat felt good and flavor very nice and Smokey. I put the cut up peppers and another 0.5oz cascade & golding hops into the fermenter in a stainless...

    Low ABV habenero?

I'm too afraid of undergoing it, so I halved another orange habenero and broiled it at 480C for 5-10 mins in the oven then added to the tincture with some additional vodka to cover the new additions. About 4oz total I think. I tastes a dab of the tincture before adding the 2nd pepper and...

    Brown ale - og 1.075 / fg 1.019

It turned out fine. It's been bottled for about a week now after 3 weeks in primary. I used to add honey to the boil on previous recipes and I think I should never have stopped. I miss the flavor the honey added. But this is definitely an enjoyable beer
