Hops Direct has Mosaic at $16/lb pellet or leaf, every day of the year? Every lb I've bought from them over the past few years has around 19 oz in it. I checked prices between them and YVH, and just about everything at Hops Direct was the same price or cheaper.
I recently bought a pound from hopsdirect, brewed a pale ale with em to test the waters, and boy was I pleasantly surprised! They are very furity, had an aroma and taste of POG (passion orange guava) juice.
Since then I've brewed an IPA with them and centennial but it's carbonating. I think...
Try using more hops, most of my good ipa's have at least 12 oz of hops, with 4 from 20-5 min, about 4 in a hop stand and 4 for dry hop. I think IPA's are one of the toughest styles to brew to expectations, just keep at it.
I found Belma to be a nice addition to a beer, but not a feature. It's as you said, "meh". I thought it was very soft and smooth, with a slight strawberry flavor and aroma. It would be very easy to overpower in an IPA.
Motueka is about the only hop on your list I could see not overpowering...
You could also add the proper amount of sugar to the keg if you don't filter your beer the yeast will carbonate the entire keg. Seems pointless to transfer to bottles and risks more oxidation.
How were the cherries handled? Frozen or freSh? Also helps to keep the fruit submerged by gently stirring atleast once a day.
Definitely some sort of infection but might still be drinkable
just went on kegconnection's site saw they're having a sale on AEB kegs of all sizes, if anybody was interested. with the price of used soda kegs goin up to $70 before tax at my LHBS, I figure why not buy new? so ordered a couple.
brewed it yesterday, ended up using 2 oz simcoe and 3 oz cascade for the 15-5 min additions. used ringwood ale yeast I harvested from a previous batch. hopefully there's enough hop flavor and aroma.
got my 4L pyrex flask for $60 off ebay I believe, 2L are half the price on amazon. I don't lager so the biggest starters i make are 3L, but a 1L starter has A LOT of surface area which I like compared to using the 2L flask. However the 4L is more of a pain to cold crash because of its size.
I'm gonna do an all grain and use your hop schedule. Gonna throw in a lb more Munich but a little less crystal. My pipeline is pretty stacked and I have 2 brews on deck so I won't get to brew the Brrr for another 3 weeks.
I've been looking at trying to brew a Brr. How'd your hops turn out? Anything you would change about your additions?
also 2 lbs of crystal seems like a lot to me, it's not too thick of a mouthfeel?
