The first growth on second year plants and older should all be cut back below the ground

You normally should cut back the first growth. Since you are moving and transplanting I would leave it. Small roots are developing in the soil and will reduce transplant shock Cheers Glen

Any good potting soil will work to the sandy side is better good drainage a must M grow is fine but put a spoon of borax in yearly (boron)
