    Worst Brew Day

I have been brewing for a little over four years now and have had no major mishaps. I believe the universe was saving it all up for today. Let me start off by saying I used to have a cheap ikea desk that had a heavy glass top. I long ago got rid of the desk but turned the glass top into a...

My second brew, decided to re-hydrate yeast and this happens :0

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=UgfubawsrcM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DUgfubawsrcM Not as bad as this guy :) I usually always do a blowoff unless i have tons of headspace or a really low og beer. Even then it is a good idea.

Anyone want to reassure a Noob?

Should I move the beer to a warmer location? No anything above 60 degrees is good in my book. Should I add more sugar or yeast? No definitely not. Let it sit for a few weeks. Should I rack to a secondary? I only do a secondary if i am going to mature it for a few months or if i am adding...

    IPA Recipe Feedback

Why first wort the summit? I would move the Ahtanum Hops there instead. Also would consider involving Citra instead of Simcoe. Seems like you would want more citrus flavor and less pine... I think your grain breakdown is really interesting. You will have to let us know how it turns out...

Trade for Flying Fish Exit 16 Wild Rice IPA

Hello everyone, Looking to trade one west coast six pack of your choice for a flying fish exit 16 wild rice IPA six pack. This is going to be a Christmas gift so whoever takes me up on this offer please keep that in mind. Breweries I have easy access to (that are great!) are Deschutes, Rogue...

    Mixing 2 Mr. Beer mixes

Personally i wouldn't mix any of those kits. If you are wanting to get some more variety to brew then look up an Octoberfest extract recipe and then substitute your mr beer kit for parts of the recipe... This is what i would do. At the end of the day though you are going to have some...

    1st Attempt, Full Boil Question

Yeah what your experiencing is your boil off. The amount is different for everyone. For me I do 6 gallons to get a five gallon total at the end. What i suggest is you boil around six gallons of water for an hour and see how much you are left with. This should give you a percent that you boiled...

    Harvester Brewing Co.

Not a big fan gluten free but there is a new line from widmer that i have been seeing around Portland lately. It is called omission, i am sure you have tried it. The nice thing about it is that it is still made with barley, but they remove all the proteins necessary to make it gluten free. I...

Suspected Infection Bottle Bomb with Pics

You know i have always wondered about this. I usually give a few stirs with a sanitized spoon to ensure that the priming sugar gets mixed up, but most people will say that this is unnecessary and that the racking movement sufficiently mixes it... Let us all know how it turns out, i am really...

First ever brew! Total noob has some questions (pics to come)

Just to throw in something else. Usually the temp of your fermentation vessel is actually two or three degrees hotter than the ambient temp of the room. So if the room is 83 then the beer is like at 86 or 87. Probably too hot and might lead to off flavors. Like someone said before search for...

    Green beer taste?

Can i ask why you didn't just bottle it all? Also i am assuming the "leftover" isn't filling the carboy. Probably half or quarter full? Usually you don't want to do this (especially after adding priming sugar). And yes you will need more sugar as there is yeast still in the brew that will eat...

    IPA partial mash recipe. Suggestions?

I love your grain breakdown. The only thing i would change (more of a personal preference) is to get a higher alpha hop for your bittering. I usually use summit, but again this is all preference. Let us know how it turns out.
